Daniel Gottlieb Obituary

Daniel N. Gottlieb

Daniel Gottlieb, 69, a lifelong resident of Margate who earned the title of unofficial mayor, and a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend who openly shared his heart with those he loved, passed away suddenly on Friday.

Dan graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1974 and earned a B.S. from The Whittemore School of Business and Economics at the University of New Hampshire in 1978. At UNH he interned with broadcaster Howard Cosell at ABC Sports, proudly escorting Cosell to games and nurturing his lifelong love for his Philadelphia teams. He was a proud honorary TKE fraternity member until his son and fellow UNH graduate, Gregory, formally initiated him this past February, making Dan both Greg's father and brother.

An avid waterman whose passions included windsurfing and paddle boarding, Dan fostered his deep respect for the ocean as a lifeguard in Atlantic City. He was a regular on the race circuit, often accompanied by his soulmate and wife of 37 years, Lisa, taking numerous wins in the Margate City Hobiecat Marathon. Dan loved sharing experiences on the water - if you were really lucky, he would take you for a hobie cat ride, cresting waves to glide over the ocean with ease. He was equally agile on the pickleball court, a passion he shared as an ambassador for the sport.

For over 40 years, Dan built a career as a trusted financial advisor at Merrill Lynch, Smith Barney, and most recently, UBS. Dan grew his team in 2020 to include a new partner in Greg. Together, they furthered Dan's highly personal business approach which centered on protecting their clients and grounded in his mantra, "We have zero clients. These are our friends."

Dan's love of animals, boisterous spirit, and penchant for a good joke lives on in his daughter Caroline, as a piece of Dan will live on in everyone lucky enough to have known him.

Dan was predeceased by his father, Bud, and mother, Joy. He is survived by his wife, Lisa; daughter, Caroline; son, Gregory (Christy); sister, Jane; brother, Rodger (Cathie); niece, Veronica Gottlieb, and his loving cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend services Tuesday, August 12th, 11 a.m., at Congregation Beth Israel, 2501 Shore Road, Northfield, NJ 08225. A livestream will be available for those unable to attend at www.JSGFunerals.com. Shiva will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Heart of Surfing, Reed's Farm, and Magen David Adom.
