Daniel Greenebaum Obituary
March 9, 1965 - January 8, 2025
RACINE - Daniel Benjamin Greenebaum passed away on January 8, 2025, after a sudden illness. He was born on March 9, 1965 in Boston, but lived in Racine for most of his life. Dan was affected with the genetic disorder that came to be known as Fragile X syndrome, and he and his family participated as study subjects in important research into the disorder.
Dan's limitations did not extend to his desire to achieve or his great charm. As a child, despite poor coordination and eyesight, he found the determination to master the skateboard. He was outgoing and gregarious, with a mimic's ear and an appealing sense of humor. While attending J.I. Case High School, he served as the football team's assistant manager, giving the players pep talks at halftime–and becoming a friend to them all.
After high school, he found fulfillment working at a variety of jobs in the community, most notably at ColorArts and at Larsen's Bakery–which, he reported, made really good coffee. He shared living space with his younger brother. Dan was an avid sports fan, cheering especially for the Badgers, the Packers, and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Dan taught his family patience, persistence, and humility, and to appreciate the helpers in our lives. He is survived by his mother, two brothers, a nephew and niece.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the National Fragile X Foundation and FRAXA Research Foundation.

Dan was the best THE BEST worker I had at Color Arts. He loved his job....and we loved him. He always wanted to do more. I was his 1st job coach at Careers...then we all went to Color Arts and it was the most wonderful experience ever to have Dan ( Popeye) he loved to be called ..on the crew. I saw him after...many times...and always rolled my window down....and gave him the high five....REST IN PEACE YOU BEAUTIFUL MAN!
