Daniel Hammond

Daniel Leroy Hammond, 89, passed away January 15, 2026. Daniel was born in 1936 to the late Cecil and Viola Underwood Hammond. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his loving wife, Kay Lynn Hammond, and his brothers Samuel and Patrick Hammond.

Dan grew up in Shelbyville, Indiana where he met his wife of 62 years Kay. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1955 serving his country until his retirement in 1974. A man of many talents, Dan went on to work and retire from Planter's Peanuts and then the Old Dominion University Webb Center before securing his dream job at Bow Creek golf course. As a lifelong golfer, Dan's happy place was always on the fairway. He loved spending his spare time with his family vacationing in the Outer Banks and entertaining everyone with his antics and contagious laugh.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving sons, William "Bill" Hammond (Susan), Robert "Bob" Hammond (Cindy); his adoring granddaughters, Nicole, Heather, Paige, and Megan; and his crew of great grandchildren, Avery, Everett, Aaron, Amber, Zara, Yasmine, and Saoirse.

A service with Military Honors to celebrate his life will be held at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Rd, Chesapeake,Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at 6:00 pm with Pastor Tracy Gregory officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to Meals on Wheels, a charity he and his wife served for many years.
