Daniel Lee Harmeling “Danny,” age 61, of Dry Ridge, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Jo and Bernard Harmeling, stepfathers Christopher Rice and Robert Ratermann; and his sister, Diane Zerhusen (nee Harmeling).
Danny is survived by his siblings, Joseph Harmeling (Susan), John Harmeling (Rhonda), Michael Rice (Bridget), and stepsisters Deborah and Darlene; aunt, Kathleen Romero; brother-in-law, Edward Zerhusen (Kim); cousins, David Rice (Ybette) and Tracy Rice; nieces and nephews, Andy Zerhusen (Amy), Jeremiah Harmeling, Johnny Harmeling, Scott Harmeling (Brenna), Alyson Benedetti (nee Harmeling) (Justin), Kathleen Rice, Chris Rice, Ashleigh Bresch (Craig) and Chelsie Hegge (Adam).  
Danny enjoyed boating, fishing and spending time with friends and family, all the while telling tall tales. Danny was particularly kind-hearted towards dogs, cats, and wildlife. He fed and watched the birds and adopted or cared for numerous stray pets throughout the years. Danny will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Middendorf Funeral Home in Fort Wright, Kentucky from 12:00 noon until the funeral service begins at 2:00 PM. Burial will immediately follow at Mother of God Cemetery. Please join us for a Celebration of Life at the South Hills Civic Club [10 Bluegrass Avenue, Fort Wright, Kentucky] from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Kentucky Search Dog Association 9760 Millard Hwy. Pikeville, KY 41501.
