Daniel O’Neal Jenkins Sr. was born on December 17, 1954, to Crump and Irene Jenkins in Lowndes County, AL. He was the second youngest of eight siblings, one of whom preceded him in death. Daniel was educated in Detroit Public Schools and proudly graduated from McKenzie High School, Class of 1973. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served honorably until 1976. During his time in DPS, Daniel formed many lifelong friendships and met his first wife, Vanassa Jenkins. From their union came three beautiful children: Deron, Daniel Jr., and Danielle. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren — Deron Jr., Isha, Marcel, and Kree — and his great-grandson, Braylen Jenkins.

Daniel accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Olivet Missionary Baptist Church in Alabama. His love for Christ was reflected in the way he showed up for others — with loyalty, warmth, and unwavering support. That love shined through in his confidence and unmistakable swagger. Daniel was quick-witted, sharp-dressed, and a true showstopper whose very presence could shift the energy of any room. He was a light - one of a kind, a pleasure to know and someone you could never forget.

Amongst many things, Daniel will be remembered as a hard working family man. He poured himself into many roles and careers over the years, ultimately retiring as a Correctional Officer with the Alabama Department of Corrections. He loved and lost, and loved over again until meeting and marrying his wife Jodine Frost on September 28, 2023 making him a bonus Dad to: Lacy, Cassandra, Kayla, Anna, and Chloe, and special “Paw Paw” to his step-grandson Izayah.

Daniel leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. He is survived by his wife, Jodine, and his children: Deron Sr., Daniel Jr., and Danielle. 4 grand-children: Deron Jr., Isha, Marcel, and Kree, and great-grandchild Braylen Jenkins. He is also survived by seven cherished siblings: Bessie Mae (Tommy), Charles (Sharon), Eva Lou, Crump Jr. (Pat), Henry (Delores), and Wayne (Renee); four stepchildren, twelve step-grandchildren, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will forever cherish his memory
