Daniel (Dan) Paul Joseph Volk, 65, of Grinnell, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
A visitation service will be held on Monday March 17, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, Iowa with family being present.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made payable to the UI Stead Family Children's Hospital Fund, mailed in c/o Smith Funeral Home, PO box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Dan was born on October 22, 1959, in Des Moines, Iowa to Marion (Rompel) Volk and George Volk Sr. He was raised in Carroll, Iowa along with his four brothers. While in high school, he played football, basketball and baseball. He later attended UNI and obtained his bachelor's degree in accounting, then obtained his CPA license in February of 1985. He was definitely a numbers man.
On June 10, 2002, Dan married LuAnn (Eurom) Myers in Central City, Colorado in a beautiful mountain setting. He became the father of LuAnn's two daughters Stacy (Eurom) Welsh and Stephanie (Eurom) Volk. Dan worked the State of Iowa as an auditor for 11years. He then worked at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance as an Audit Manager for 15 years before his retirement in 2011 due to disability
Dan was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, especially football and recently women's basketball. He enjoyed reading, golfing and giving his daughters and grandchildren pointers in sports. In 2012, Dan officially adopted Stacy and Stephanie, officially making them a family. He was always a loving father, full of advice and ready to give advice. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He loved inventing "games" for their annual family adoption day celebration. He LOVED numbers and was a stock market aficionado. Dan was a devoted, loving husband. He loved going to the casino with friends and his brothers and he made the BEST peanut butter chocolate star cookies. "Best batch ever!" He would say every time!
Dan is survived by his wife LuAnn, his daughter Stacy of Brooklyn, Stephanie of Altoona, brothers Steve (Val) Volk of Canada, George Volk Jr. of Iowa City, Bob (Barb) Volk of Marion, John (Melodee) Volk of Switzerland, grandchildren Claire (Tye) Burch of New Sharon, Bryce Solem of Newton, Wilder Nagel of Brooklyn, two great grandchildren Sawyer and River of New Sharon, and many nieces and nephews.
