Daniel Edward Kimball

Our bright yellow star ascended into heaven Monday April 5, 2021. Daniel Edward Kimball was born on July 26, 1981 to Bill and Robin Kimball, the sixth of eight children, and the third of four boys. Dan instantly brought joy to his family.

Dan will be remembered for unquenchable ZEST for anything virtuous, lovely, of good report, praiseworthy and fun! Dan was one of a kind. He had a larger-than-life personality and was fun, witty, spontaneous and unapologetically himself. Dan put the saying "There is no substitute for hard work" above his oldest boys' room. This saying reflected his work ethic and his desire that his children learn to work. Dan loved fish, animals, rocks, snakes and anything else he could capture in nature and passed this love to his children.

At a young age, Dan showed a deep devotion and love to his siblings and others that lasted through his entire life. Dan genuinely loved others and treated them with kindness regardless of who they were or their social standing. Dan had a quick smile and had endless friends that he loved and served. Dan would give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need and did so on numerous occasions. Dan had a way of making everyone around him feel comfortable and welcome. He was not afraid to stand up for anyone and did so regularly. He was genuine, authentic, and a man of his word. He served many through unheralded acts of kindness, attentive concern and unconditional love. He worked hard, played hard, and made every gathering memorable and fun.

Second to his love of friends and family was his love of popcorn and orange julius. He claimed to make the best orange julius and popcorn in the family but had no problem eating it when someone else made it.

Sports were an important part of Dan's life. Dan was athletically gifted and always competed with maximum effort. Dan especially loved rugby, football and basketball. Dan usually got the better of any collision, on the field or on the court.

Dan was an excellent student and academics always came easy. Dan graduated from East High and the University of Utah, where he attended on a leadership scholarship. Dan had a thirst for knowledge and was constantly learning throughout his life. He had a unique ability to quickly assimilate knowledge from various sources and apply the knowledge to achieve his goals.

Dan was a natural leader and people gravitated to him. He was student body president at Bryant Junior High, East High School, and served on the Institute student council at the University of Utah. Dan also loved being a part of the Sigma Chi fraternity.

Dan was an entrepreneur from a young age. He began selling rocks, lizards, fish and snakes in elementary school. In junior high and high school, he moved on to a lawn mowing business and also started a window washing business while in college. Dan learned valuable business skills working with the University of Utah venture fund and applied this knowledge successfully as an entrepreneur in the business world. With vision, integrity, fairness and determination, Dan built a successful real estate business from the ground. Dan lifted everyone he worked with to greater heights, including his employees.

Dan had a firm testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and was dedicated to his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He lived as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Dan served a faithful mission to Venezuela and continued to serve the Saints of Venezuela long after his full-time missionary service. Dan loved the youth of the Church and affected many lives through his example and service. Dan served in many callings in the Church and was serving as a Counselor in the bishopric of the Vista View Ward at the time of his passing.

Dan was loved by all of his nieces and nephews, who each thought they were his favorite. Dan spent numerous hours wrestling, hiking, joking with and giving meaningful time to each of them. He was their pied piper.

Dan met the love of his life, Marianne Smoot, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 13, 2008. Theirs was a marriage of true minds and generous hearts. They were a perfect match of beauty, inside and out. They were blessed with four good-hearted, beautiful children that Dan loves with all of his heart. Marianne and his children were the central focus of his life and he loved spending time with them. Dan volunteered at his children's school just to spend extra time with them. Dan fought a mighty battle with cancer to be with his family as long as possible. Marianne was an angel by Dan's side and lovingly and faithfully tended to Dan throughout his painful ordeal.

Dan loved life and took advantage of every moment to serve and bless those around him. Dan is one of the Lord's elect that was called home to bless the lives of those on the other side of the veil. His work is not done and we can only imagine the amazing things he will accomplish on his new mission.

The world is a better place because of Dan's life and he will be immeasurably missed.

Dan is survived by his wife, Marianne Smoot Kimball, his children Londyn, Noah, Clayton and Wells. His parents Bill and Robin Kimball. His siblings, Bill Kimball Jr. and Mary, Steven and Yessi Kimball, Ashley and Pat Moffat, Becky and Grant Carter, Shannon and Ben Smith, Natalie and Brennan Moss, and Michael and Holly Kimball, parents-in-law Steven and Kathleen Smoot, and siblings-in-law Reid and Kirsten Smoot, Matthew and Carrie Smoot, Jacob and Melissa Smoot, Marcus and Michelle Smoot, Ryan and Emily Smoot, Todd and Sarah Smoot, Jenni and Paul Wuthrich, Ashley and Norm Adams.

A viewing will be held at the LDS Chapel located at 4275 S. Bountiful Boulevard, Bountiful, Utah 84010 on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the same LDS Chapel located at 4275 S. Bountiful Boulevard, Bountiful, Utah 84010 on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:00am. No viewing will take place prior to the funeral services. Burial services for family and close friends will take place directly afterwards at the Salt Lake Cemetery. The services will be live streamed on Facebook at Russon Brothers Mortuary and via Zoom.
