Steven Alvis Carr

February 12, 1941- February 1, 2026

Steven Alvis Carr - our devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend - returned to his Heavenly home on February 1, 2026. Throughout his remarkable 85-year journey, Steve embodied hope, hard-work, humor, courage, gratitude, and love.

Steve was born February 12, 1941 to Alvis Alexander Carr and Arlene Duncan in Salt Lake City, Utah at the LDS Hospital. He was always good to his mother. He was an Eagle Scout, and talked fondly of his scouting adventures. He graduated from East High School in 1959, and later graduated from the University of Utah in Accounting. He served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the South Australian Mission. He served in many different callings in the church, his favorite, teaching Primary with Susan.

Shortly after his mission, Steve was in a truck/pedestrian accident at the University of Utah, where he lost the fleshy part of his heel. This injury plagued him the rest of his life, with many surgeries, skin grafts, hospital stays, infections, amputation, etc. Sixty-three years later, it was the partial cause of his passing. Admirably, he dealt with his injury with courage and tenacity, and lived his life on his terms.

Steve married Susan Skenandore in the Salt Lake Temple on January 8, 1976. They recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. His career was in Sales with Modern Display and Smalley & Company. He enjoyed his retirement years, doing a little travelling, volunteering (teaching reading to elementary children), golf, and gardening.

He loved the great outdoors. Many family vacations were to the National Parks. He had a keen sense of direction, and loved taking the road less travelled. He loved hiking, biking, canoeing, river rafting, exploring, swimming, golf, and relaxing in his hammock. Steve and Susan kept a beautiful home and yard. He built a barn, gazebo, arbor, fence and gate, where the Carr's hosted 17 weddings in their back yard. He was always putting in another border of lavender, another rock garden, another rose garden! It became too much, and we had to leave our family home ten years ago.

Steve was an avid reader, his favorites being westerns, church history, and historical fiction. He loved cowboy and Indian books and art. He also loved music, especially jazz, and the Tabernacle Choir.

He was a character. He always said exactly what was on his mind, and wasn't good at faking it! People often couldn't tell if he was joking or being serious (mostly joking)!

Steve is survived by his wife Susan Skenandore Carr, and their children: Ryan (Liz) Carr, Natalie (Gabe) Cottam, Michelle (Bertrand) Morpain, and Emily (Patrick) Anderson, and 11 grandchildren.

Also survived by his sister Becky (Tom) Edmunds, sister in laws, Elan Carr and Judy Carr, and favorite Aunt Jean Duncan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers James Carr and Roger Carr.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 6th, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the West Jordan City Cemetery, 7925 South 1300 West, West Jordan, Utah. Interment to follow.
