Dennis Frederick Dunn

Dennis Dunn passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026. He was born March 25, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Vincent Daniel and Helen Schroeder Dunn.

He is survived by his three children: Tracy (Frank), Robin, David (Odette) and seven grandchildren, Megan, Peter, Zachary, Luke (Emmy), Madison, Olivia, Elizabeth and one great-grandchild, Aiden (Luke and Emmy).

Denny grew up in a house located at 1036 E. 600 S. At a young age he started delivering groceries for the store where his father worked, learning the streets of Salt Lake City like the back of his hand. In high school Denny was a very popular student and his prowess on the hockey rink and pitcher's mound were noted again and again by his many friends who signed his East High School yearbooks. He made friends easily and was known for his affability, kindness and sense of humor, traits which accompanied him throughout his life.

After high school and following a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy, Denny met the love of his life, Carol Esther Gutke at a skating rink where she was serenely practising her figure eights while he raced around the ice, both of them intently focused on form and agility. They complemented each other perfectly. Carol, who had entertained several suitors, said repeatedly that she chose Denny because he was FUN. They were married on September 30, 1958 and after that welcomed a daughter, Tracy, another daughter, Robin and a son, David.

Denny got a job at the post office starting as a clerk and working his way up the ladder, always intent on doing everything he could to provide for his family. Throughout his career in the Postal Service Denny rarely missed a day of work, took on unpopular late night shifts and attended many technical training courses which resulted in his making technological innovations and improvements to the delivery of the U.S. mail. Denny chose early retirement from the Postal Service in order to spend as much quality time with Carol as possible. They traveled all over the world but developed a special fondness for the Hawaiian island of Maui, a destination of several cruises and flights.

Love of family and family gatherings were closest to Denny's heart and he was never happier than when he took his family on camping and sightseeing trips or hosted family reunions in the summer and at holidays. He will be missed by family and friends alike who experienced his good humor and kind, caring nature
