Robert Parratt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wing Mortuary - Lehi on Mar. 3, 2026.
Our beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and friend, Robert Easton Parratt (Bob) passed away February 21, 2026 at 93 years old in Lehi, UT.

Dad was born September 13, 1932 in Salt Lake City, UT to James Easton Parratt and Lila Pearl Lewis. He will always be remembered by his wife Laura Mae Stocking Parratt and children: Debra Headrick (Tim), Kimberley Hutchinson (William), Lauri Hunter (Keith), Mark Parratt (Cinda), LeAnn Merrill (Robert), and Jamie Parratt. His posterity is great with 29 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Bob grew up in Salt Lake City, UT and later moved to Murray, UT, with his family, where they were required to move when his father took a job as Superintendent of the Granite School District.

Dad participated in many sports activities until he contracted Polio at age 14 from swimming in a pool. He was told he would never walk again. He was determined to learn to walk, even though he had to endure much effort and pain in the process. Shirley Temple paid a visit to the boys in his hospital room and kissed each boy on the cheek. They all vowed they would never wash their cheeks again. He had had a paper route for many years. During his recovery, his father delivered the papers for him.

When Dad was in Jr. High School, there was a two-year period where they combined 7th & 8th grade into one year due to the war because of shortages of teachers and staff. He graduated from East High School at the age of 16, then received a Business Degree at the University of Utah.

At the age of 16, dad took a job with JC Penney's which started his life's career. He was assigned to work in the Women's Lingerie department and then worked in the Shoes Department and worked in various assignments until he became a Store Manager. During his career, Dad was transferred to different locations: Salt Lake City, UT, Billings, MT, Omaha, NE, Riverton, WY, Twin Falls, ID, and Astoria, OR, where he retired at the age of 60.

Dad met the love of his life, Laura Mae Stocking Parratt while they were both working at JC Penneys. On a rainy day, they were assigned to go to the warehouse to work for the day.

Since it was still raining after their shift dad offered a ride to mom and her friend instead of them taking the bus. Eventually dad got the courage to ask mom out on a date. They dated every Friday night. They became exclusive and dated every Friday and Saturday night. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 13, 1954.

After retirement they moved to Sandy, UT, and lived there for 17 years. Later they built their dream home in Layton, UT and lived there for 21 years.

Their children were the joy of their lives, Debra, Kimberley, Lauri, Mark, LeAnn & Jamie.

Dad was well liked by everyone he met. They had many friendships from every state they lived in. They loved his dry sense of humor and his quick wit.

Dad will always be remembered for his love for mom, his children, and his hard-working ethic, and his diligent service to Heavenly Father. He served in many callings in the Church, most notable as a clerk. He served over 27 years under many bishops as a ward, financial, or membership clerk. He had great talent at record keeping and attention to accuracy and detail.

Though we will miss him deeply, we take comfort in the many memories we share and the legacy of love and kindness that he leaves behind. We love you dad!

Interment will be at the Herriman City Cemetery, 12465 South Pioneer Street (6000 West), Herriman, UT 84096
