Daniel Kinion Obituary

DANIEL LEE KINION
March 6, 1955 ˜ January 28, 2025

Dan Kinion passed away at his home in Vancouver, WA, ending his brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Dan was born in Corvallis, OR., to Elden and Edith Kinion as the youngest of their five children. He graduated from Corvallis High School in 1973 and from Oregon State University in 1984. In 1983, Dan married Kathy Price, also a Corvallis High graduate. In 2020, he retired from Rodda Paint concluding a 36-year career in the Paint and Coating business.
Those are the biographical facts of Dan’s life, but he will be remembered for his personality and character. Dan Kinion was one of a kind. He was a true and loyal friend who forged many close, lifetime friendships with individuals from all walks of life. He always welcomed you with a smile, making you feel as though you were the only person in the room. His kind spirit defined him and was front and center in everything he did.
Dan was always in constant motion. He had his lists and continual ongoing projects, if not at home then at someone else’s home or at their place in Christmas Valley. Dan had a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, pheasant hunting with his bird dogs and fellow hunters, and fishing with his buddies. His beloved OSU Beavers were his team. A Beaver game was likely the only occasion he ever sat still. Dan enjoyed his 36-year career, during which he was highly respected by his employers, co-workers and clients. They knew him as a man of integrity and someone they could trust.
His family and friends were the recipients of his generous nature as he always stepped up to help in any way needed. Having lived in the same neighborhood for 30 years, he was known and loved by all. Family held great importance to him, and he was particularly close to his niece and nephew, Cami and Luke Price, who he regarded as his surrogate kids. His daily life involved exercising and training his beloved German shorthaired hunting dogs.
His was a life well lived, and his grace and love were evident to everyone as he departed this world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dale and Neal Kinion and is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathy, and his sisters, Brenda Thompson and Lajane Newkirk as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rest in Peace, Danny Boy. You will always be in our hearts and we are better because of you. You made a difference.
“A beautiful life that came to an end,
he died as he lived, everyone’s friend.
In our hearts a memory will always be kept,
of one we loved and will never forget.”

A Celebration of Life will be held June 28, 2025, from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Artillery Barracks in Fort Vancouver, 600 Hatheway Rd., Vancouver, WA. 98661

We were extremely saddened to hear about Dan´s passing. He was a wonderful and kind person. Full of energy. An infectious smile. A gregarious laugh. Always interested in hearing what others were up to. He was always so much fun to be around. One of the nicest people you would ever meet.

We will be praying for comfort for Kathy and the families on both sides. May Jesus bring peace to everyone who knew him.

Dan was my best man and I was his best man at our weddings and a life long friend. We always kept in touch over the years. Please listen to the words to the song "A boat lies waiting" by David Gilmour 2016 to know what the loss of Dan means to me personally. FYI, Kalama river steelhead fish photo taken in 1982.
