Daniel G. Kleinschmit, age 91, of Wausa, Nebraska died on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Arbor Care Center in Hartington, Nebraska.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Bloomfield, NE with Rev. Marcus Knecht and Rev. Daniel Guenther officiating. Burial will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, on Monday, August 12, 2024 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Bloomfield with a rosary and vigil service at 7:00 PM. Visitation also continues one hour prior the funeral at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Daniel was born December 12, 1932 on a farm east of Menominee, Nebraska to John and Leona (Fernholz) Kleinschmit. He attended country school in Menominee and then farmed with his family. On February 13, 1956, Dan married RoseAnn Wuebben in St. Helena, NE. After their marriage, they lived and farmed on RoseAnn’s family farm until moving to St. James, NE. They farmed there for four years and then farmed in the Brooky Bottom area. In 1974, they moved to Wausa where he farmed for the rest of his life. Throughout the years, Dan also did a lot of custom farming for many different people. Dan loved farming and he was a John Deere man through and through. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, sang in the church choir, and was also a church sacristan for many years. Dan loved playing baseball and played into his 40’s. He also loved to organize a family softball game, croquet game, or play lawn darts. Dan was a great pool player and played in league for many years. He also enjoyed his bowling league, playing horseshoe, playing cards, driving school bus, and he LOVED playing Sheephead.
Dan is survived by his wife of 68 years, RoseAnn of Wausa; 10 children: Charles (Vicki) of Coleridge, NE, Leonard (Connie McPhillips) of Wausa, David (Staci) of Wausa, John (Darcy) of Norfolk, NE, Marilyn (Bill) Thoene of Hartington, Dan Jr. (Cheryl) of Wausa, Kathy (Tim) Pick of Hartington, Richard (Karen) of Wausa, Darrell (Rachel) of Wausa and Leann Frey of Tilden, NE; 40 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren with one on the way; three siblings: Dolorita Uhing of Hartington, Larry (Pat) Kleinschmit of Yankton and Carol (Frederick) Pinkleman of Wynot, NE; and many nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, John and Leona Kleinschmit; son, Joseph Kleinschmit; grandson, Cody Pick; three sisters and their spouses: Marina (Norbert) Bollich, Doris (Kenneth) Paltz and Virginia (Donald) Bergman; brother-in-law, Kenneth Uhing.
