Daniel "Dan" Van Langen, 65, of Alden, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, January 5, 2024 at the Alden United Methodist Church. He will be laid to rest at the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday, January 4 at the church. Woodley Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is caring for Dan and his family.
Daniel Norman Van Langen was born on August 16, 1958 to Norman and Dorothy (Holdgrafer) Van Langen in Webster City, Iowa. Dan attended Alden schools and was a member of the Alden United Methodist Church for 50 years.
Dan was a farmer and worked heavy equipment and construction for Maynard Rockow. He also dispatched semi for Julius Winter Trucking for many years then went back to driving his own semi-truck as owner/operator of Van Langen Management.
Dan enjoyed time, every minute, spent with his kids, grandkids and their friends. For many years he volunteered as a 4H leader and volunteer fire fighter in the Buckeye and Alden communities. Dan was extremely proud to pull the Legion float during the Alden Days Parade and help with Memorial Day flags, especially after his dad passed. He was always seen around town with grandkids as the driver or scooting around on his golf cart, often on the way to Thursday night cards, where treasured friendships were made.
Dan was extremely known for was staying connected with family, friends, and classmates through text, phone calls and Facebook.
Dan Van Langen is survived by his long time friend of 28 years, Kathy Wilson of Alden, Iowa; children, Aaron and Julie Van Langen of Buckeye, Iowa, LaRae and Ryan Johnson of Iowa Falls, Iowa and Dana and Daniel Sanchez of Hampton, Iowa; grandchildren: Taylor, Aubrey, Joslin and Aidan Johnson, Graciela, Erika, Gabriel, Hannah and Daniel Sanchez; sister, Cynthia (Scott) Ellingson of Alden, Iowa and their family, Sara (Bo) Balvanz and family of Eldora, Iowa, Josh (Jenn) Ellingson and family of Audubon, Iowa; brother, Tom (Amy) Van Langen of Alden, Iowa; Johnathan, Christopher and Hunter Van Langen of Alden, Iowa and Tony (Michelle) Wilson and family of Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Dorothy Van Langen.
