Doris Rosemary (Diemer) Haupt Ibeling was born on November 18, 1927, the daughter of Floyd and Clara (Sailer) Diemer. She was born in Franklin County at the Hofmeister homestead. She graduated from high school in 1944 and became a teacher with a BA in Education from the Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) in 1946.
Doris was married to Raymond Haupt from 1945-1951. During this time, she became widowed and taught school in neighboring communities.
Doris married Robert G. Ibeling on August 9, 1953, at the United Church of Christ in Ackley. They were happily married for over fifty years, farming and raising their children four miles west of Ackley. Together they built a successful farming operation. They also enjoyed doing other things together, such as building a new farm house, going to family reunions, playing cards, dancing with friends, celebrating birthdays and holidays with family, going to Texas in the winter and taking many fishing trips.
Doris was active in a variety of church activities, generously donating her baked goods as well as her sewing talents.
Through the years, Doris had many other interests. She was the first woman to serve on the Ackley School Board. Doris always had one to three gardens to manage. Everyone enjoyed her good food and wine (i.e., red raspberry, grape and currant) and particularly her cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls and fresh fruit pies. Doris was also known for her stained-glass work. She made beautiful stained-glass items gifted to family members. In the past few years, Doris enjoyed playing bridge, golfing and having lunch with friends. She enjoyed a good STRONG cup of coffee and repeatedly asked company if they wanted more and more food. No one ever went away hungry.
Doris Ibeling lived an extraordinary life with family, friends, church and the community. She was a teacher, wife, mother and grandmother and is survived by five children, twenty-four grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Her children and their spouses include, John F. Haupt Ibeling and Corinne Malcolm, Mary A. Haupt Ibeling Nordenson and Richard E. Nordenson, Raymond F. Haupt Ibeling and Shawn Glew, Will Robert "Bill" Ibeling and Jolene Willems, Michael G. Ibeling and Susan Froning. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Ibeling.
Doris leaves a legacy of teaching others by example, the value of family, hard work, persistence, honesty, ethics, resourcefulness and friendship. Her presence in our lives will be missed.
