Daniel Lee "Dan" Marek, 85, of Warrenton, TX, passed away on the night of December 23, 2025, at South Austin Medical Center in Austin, TX.
He was born November 23, 1940, to Myrtle (Slovacek) Marek and Bennie Marek in
Bellville, Texas. He grew up in Industry, Texas where he was baptized and confirmed in the CMB Church in Industry. He attended West End School and in his junior year of high school, the family moved to Warrenton. He graduated from Round Top Carmine High School in 1959. After graduation, he moved to Brenham, Texas and started working for Kugel Packaging and then became a USDA Meat Inspector for forty-one years. He also played in the band with the "Hi-Notes" as a drummer. Dan was the last oldest living member of the band.
Dan also operated Warrenton Catfish Farm for over twenty years when he moved back to Warrenton. He was active with the Round Top-Warrenton Fire Department in his younger years.
He was gifted to do and fix just about anything with his hands after figuring it out. Dan was the type of person who never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Dan had a heart of gold, and would have given the shirt off of his back to help anyone in need. He also held a special place in his heart for animals.
Dan was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Warrenton, where he volunteered to help at the food booth during the antique shows. He was also an expert BBQ Man, making the best tasting BBQ ever and was also a great sausage maker. Dan enjoyed making sausage at home and smoking it in his smokehouse.
On April 22, 1989, he married his true love, Leatrice Badke in Burton, Texas.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of thirty-six years, Leatrice (Badke) Marek; two sons: Brian Marek (Lanna), and Ryan Marek (Gina); Dan's faithful four legged companion-his dog Stormee; along with special neighbors: Joey, Ashley, Justin, and Ace Jasek with whom Dan and Leatrice could call at any hour of the night if they ever needed any help.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Myrtle and Bennie Marek; sister and brother-in-law: Mae Dell Marek Harms and Wilburn Harms; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
