In his youth, Dan was athletic, participating in basketball and track and field. His love for the game never faded-he spent many years officiating high school basketball, where he was respected for his fairness and dedication to the game.
March Madness was more than a tournament to Dan – it was a sacred season. Dan was also a die-hard Boston sports fan, with a loyalty that ran deep for the Patriots, Celtics, and Red Sox.
Dan earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Maine in Orono. Professionally, Dan built a distinguished career in the insurance industry, where he was admired for his analytical skills, customer-first mindset, and steady leadership. Dan held multiple professional licenses and designations, and held key roles in claims handling, estimating, and insurance sales, working with companies such as Allstate, Liberty Mutual, and AIG.
Above all, Dan was a devoted father to his son, Aiden. Their shared love of baseball, wrestling and time spent together created cherished memories that defined Dan's greatest joy. He also enjoyed long conversations with family and friends,
often filled with stories, laughter, and reflections on life.
Dan is survived by his son, Aiden Martin of Harrington, DE; his former wife and good friend, Jennifer Martin, of Harrington, DE; his brother Dale Martin, sister-in-law, Kathy Martin, and his nephew and niece, Joseph and Jane Martin, all of New Hartford, CT; and many beloved cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Roland Martin and Jane Mooney Martin.
Dan will be laid to rest in Rumford, ME. A private memorial will be held by the family. In Dan's memory, the family encourages others to honor him by spending time with loved ones or performing an act of kindness. Donations can also be made in his name to The Muscular Dystrophy Association.
