Daniel J. McDowell, age 81 of Millville passed away Tuesday morning, February 18, 2025 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland.
He was born and raised in Millville to the late James and Amy (Jones) McDowell, and he attended Millville Public Schools. Daniel soon married Charlotte and moved to Dividing Creek to begin their life and family together. After 33 years he and his family moved back to Millville.
For three and a half years Daniel obtained his apprenticeship as a Tooler for L.G. Nestor Glass Corp. in Millville. Over the years he worked for Sherman Newcomb Glass Co. in Millville, Lab Glass in Vineland, Bellco Glass in Vineland, Wheaton Scientific, Pennsylvania Glass Sand, and in 1989 he and his wife became the owners and operators of Char-Dan Glass Co. in Dividing Creek for ten years. For eight years Daniel worked as a Lathe Operator at Ace Glass Inc. in Vineland and retired. In addition to his career he also serviced major appliances, and heating and air conditioning for 28 years.
He was a life member and past president of the Dividing Creek Fire Co. and the Cumberland County Firefighter's Association. He was a life member of the New Jersey State Fireman's Association, and the Regional Glass Blowers Society. In his spare time, Daniel enjoyed restoring furniture and antiques, and woodworking.
Daniel will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Charlotte V. (Mason) McDowell; his children, Terry Lesh (Steven) of Fairfield Twp., Lisa Hassen of Franklin Twp., James McDowell of NC, and his twin daughters, Stacy A. Camp (Wes) of Cumberland, and Tracy B. McDowell of Millville; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; and his loving fur baby Bonnie. He was predeceased by his son in law Mark Hassen.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025 in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad Street, Millville. There will be a viewing on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Millville.
