Daniel K. Miller

Daniel K. Miller, age 83, of Brooklyn, Indiana, passed away on December 21, 2025, into the arms of his Lord and into a joyful reunion with his beloved wife, Myra Lou (Tilford) Miller, the love of his life.

Dan was born on August 9, 1942, to Pete and Ada Miller and grew up in Salem, Indiana. He played basketball for Salem High School and graduated in 1961. He enjoyed mathematics, history, and drafting and once envisioned becoming an architect.

Dan fell in love at first sight with Myra Lou Tilford at a basketball game at Campbellsburg High School. Determined in his pursuit, he bribed her younger brothers with candy bars and double-dated with her older brother, Edward Tilford, and his girlfriend Beverly. Dan and Myra married on June 17, 1961, beginning a lifelong marriage rooted in love, faith, and family.

They lived in Virginia, Michigan, and Indiana, building a life marked by gratitude for simple pleasures and steadfast prayers for children. Their first "baby" was a beloved Toy Pomeranian named Britches, who traveled everywhere with them-often sneaking into movies, stores, and motels. In 1977, they purchased land in Morgan County, and in 1978 Dan proudly built their family home from plans he personally drafted.

Dan worked many jobs throughout his life, including as a welder at a shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia; a Kmart store manager; and later as a long-haul and local truck driver after earning his CDL. He drove across all 48 states and locally for Consolidated Freightways and was proud to be a member of Teamsters Local Union 135. In every role, Dan took great pride in his work and remained devoted to providing for his family.

In the early 2000s, Dan and Myra found Good Shepherd Baptist Church, where their faith and fellowship flourished. Dan especially enjoyed driving the church bus, singing in the choir with Myra, and the meaningful conversations that came with helping others worship.

Above all else, Dan cherished his children: Dana Marline Lynn, Christina Marie Bowman, and Danny Miller Jr. He was a devoted father whose love was shown through sacrifice, dependability, and unwavering commitment. He deeply loved his grandchildren-Sebastian, Josey, Zachary, and Rayann, and often shared the story of a slumber party his daughters hosted that grew to over thirty girls, countless pizzas, and lifelong memories.

Dan was a lifelong Indiana University basketball fan and admired Coach Bob Knight. He gave back to his community as an AAU basketball coach, softball coach in Martinsville, and board member of the Martinsville Junior Football League. He helped build the concession stand and press box at Martinsville West Middle School and played a key role in advocating for the stoplight at State Road 67 and County Line Road, improving safety in an area once known for frequent accidents.

Dan loved the outdoors, hiking, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, grilling, and shooting hoops, and cherished quiet moments with family. He had a lifelong passion for cars, especially Corvettes, proudly owning a 1968 Corvette and working for a time as a car salesman. In later years, he was rarely without his devoted dog, Skipper, a true member of the family.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Myra; his parents; and his brothers Kenneth, Dennis and Donald Todd. His legacy lives on through his faith, his family, and the community he helped strengthen.

Dan will be remembered for his mental strength, perseverance, dedication, and devotion to family. A gifted conversationalist and coach at heart, his love, wisdom, and resilience will never be forgotten. Though we grieve, we celebrate his reunion with Myra, go Father, go Coach Miller, and we will see you later alligator.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 29, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Good Shepherd Baptist Church, and from 9 to 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the church. Pastors Brandon Sichting and Everett Barnard will officiate the funeral service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Burial will follow in Centerton Cemetery. A meal will be provided by the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Baptist Church's Bus Ministry.
