DANIEL EDWARD MONAGLE
October 15, 1946 - June 16, 2024
Daniel, 77, of Voorhees, New Jersey passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024. Born in Camp LeJeune, NC, he was the son of the late Edward and Alice (nee Gallagher) Monagle. After spending his early childhood up and down the east coast, he spent his formative years in Brooklawn, NJ.
Dan was valedictorian of the class of 1964 at Gloucester Catholic High School and pursued a degree in English through the ROTC program at Holy Cross College. He graduated summa cum laude in 1968 and was a prestigious Rhodes Scholar nominee.. He proudly served in the US Navy for nine years rising in ranks from ensign to Lieutenant Commander, and served in the Vietnam War. His military assignments took him to both coasts, before settling in Annapolis, Maryland. Here he taught English at the United States Naval Academy and attended Georgetown University Law to obtain a Juris Doctorate in 1977.
After leaving the armed forces and moving to Voorhees, NJ to be closer to family, Dan entered the private sector as an attorney, working at Dechert, Price, and Rhoads law firm before eventually settling at Verizon (formerly Bell Atlantic) where he retired after 30 years. At work, Dan was known for his intelligence, kindness, and quick wit, as well as his expansive vintage telephone collection and seemingly endless supply of candy. After retiring, he spent time volunteering to tutor non-native English speakers and eventually took a job at Lowe's to keep himself busy.
Dan was a true family man and adored his family. Generous and kind, he never hesitated to help any of his family in need. As his children grew, so did the breadth of his role as dad: he went from helping with homework to giving life advice on anything from relationships to mortgages to car advice. No question was too big or too small, no matter what he would put his all into it. Nothing would go unanswered or unresearched. His sincerity and willingness to help his family made him a role model for his children, and a guidepost for their own parenting.
Dan was proud of the family he and his wife built, and in turn, delighted in the grandchildren that came next. Known as "Pops", he loved taking his grandkids on the same adventures he had taken his own children. He always showed up for them, whether it was a dance recital or a basketball game, he would be there. He spent the summers taking his family to yearly vacations to Long Beach Island, and continued the same tradition with his children and his grandkids. He also enjoyed traveling and spent many memorable trips abroad. He was a voracious reader and loved going to the gym, movies, and flea markets, especially his number one, the Berlin Farmers Market.
Dan enjoyed good conversation and could talk to anyone with ease. He was the go-to toastmaster at all events for his on the fly speeches and witty anecdotes. At the same time, he also regaled in telling the same jokes over and over, and getting groans in response to his never-ending puns. But most importantly, he never hung up the phone without saying "love you."
Daniel is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia (nee Hunter), his four children, Kevin Monagle (Kaycee), Kelly Bonnette (Jeff), Kara Thornton (Jeff), and Kate Killen, as well as his ten beloved grandchildren: Sarah, Emily, Samantha, Grant, Lily, Shane, Cassidy, Carly, Evan, and Declan. He also leaves behind three loving siblings, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Edward, of Clark, New Jersey.
A visitation will be held from 4-5pm and a service to honor and celebrate his life will begin at 5pm on July 11, 2024 at Bradley Funeral Home at 601 Route 73 South (at Evesham Road) in Marlton, NJ. Interment will be private..
In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Dan's love of reading, donations can be made to The World Literacy Foundation.

Danny was a fine roommate for George Robinson and myself the first two years at Holy Cross. He was a good example of a serious student who wanted to succeed. And he did. He had a clever sense of humor, and we had a good time. None of us had much money. He bought a hair trimmer, and I gave him military appropriate haircuts for NROTC. He was a fine naval officer. I knew he was very devoted to Pat and his family. It saddened me greatly when I received the news of his death. RIP in the arms of God.

Everyday. Dan was a great speaker and well loved associate at Lowes of Voorhees. He will be missed. Always enjoyed listening to his war stories and many adventures. Thanks Dan the front end will never be the same.
