On Monday, May 26, 2025. Daniel Alton Niemeier Passed away peacefully at his home in Boise, Idaho, surrounded by his family.
Dan was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on August 26, 1952, to Herman and Carol Niemeier. The youngest of three, he had an older sister, Linda, and a brother, Carl. Dan, a born athlete, grew up on a potato farm and attended school in Shelley, where he spent his years balancing farm chores with Little League Football, baseball, and basketball. Dan's talent and size were so remarkable that his mother habitually carried his birth certificate, knowing opposing teams would question his age.
Dan attended Shelley High School (home of the Shelley Russets), where he excelled in football, baseball, and basketball. Notable accomplishments include a state championship in basketball in 1970, serving on the student council, Being a Junior class president, and two years as a player on the Idaho Falls American Legion baseball team.
Dan graduated from Shelley High School in 1970. He received a scholarship to play football at Boise State, where he became a lifelong fan. As a proud Bronco, he formed lasting friendships and graduated in 1974 with a degree in Business Administration.
Dan met his future wife, Saundra Hoschouer, at Boise State University, and they got married on August 10, 1974. Dan and Saundra had three children: Jacob Daniel (born in 1977), Jon (born in 1980), and Kara Jean (born in 1981).
Dan managed the first Reynolds Aluminum Recycling for three years. In 1979, Dan partnered with Bruce Edgerton to purchase Pre-Cote Industries. After retiring, Dan handed over Pre-Cote's keys to his son, Jake.
Dan dedicated his free time to coaching children in football, baseball, and softball. He genuinely cared about all the kids he coached and hoped to make a positive impact on their lives.
He enjoyed fly-fishing at his Uncle Paul's place, playing golf, and gathering with friends, family, and neighbors for Boise State University tailgating events. When he wasn't watching football games, he loved going on trips, attending holiday parties, and chatting with neighbors while leaning on the mailboxes. Above all, he cherished his family and will be greatly missed.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Carol Niemeier, sister Linda Woehl and son Jon Samuel, and nephew Travis Egbert.
He is survived by his wife, Saundra Niemeier; Son Jake; and daughter, Kara (James); grandchildren Sam, Ireland, Holland, and Tyler; his brother Carl, wife Monica; and sister-in-law Cyndi Conner (Stephen). Nieces and nephews: Aaron Hoschouer, Ethan (Christina), Emily (Wes), David (Cheri), Andrea (Jason), Alexis (Chad), Kim (Daniel).
The Services will be held at Tree City Church, 3852 N. Eagle Rd Boise, ID 83713, on June 28, 2025, at 1:00 pm.
