Daniel Paul Northrup
October 7, 1948 – August 19, 2023
Dan Northrup, a beloved husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away in Menifee, California with his loved ones by his side. Dan was born in Riverside, California, to the parents of Paul and Gerry Northrup and grew up in Mira Loma. His childhood was a happy one, and he loved taking care of animals. At one point during his childhood, Dan raised one hundred rabbits at a time. He would sell his rabbits to local restaurants and use his earnings to buy soda pop, candy, and more rabbits and rabbit food.
Dan also loved sports and played high school football at Rubidoux High School. His first job was at the Press Enterprise, where he stuffed newspapers with ads for Montgomery Wards and JC Penny. Following high school, Dan started college, and shortly after, the Vietnam War broke out. He enlisted in the Navy and served overseas during his four years of duty.
Following the Navy, Dan lived a full life with his wife Claire, son Paul, family, friends, and many cherished pets. The majority of his life was spent in construction and construction management, which was a career he loved. Dan had residences in Norco, Fallbrook, Vail, and Las Vegas before retiring in Menifee.
Throughout Dan's life, he tackled challenges head-on. Whether in sports, the war in Vietnam or his career, he gave it his all. More than anything, he wanted to have the respect of the people in his life. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt, fish, camp and especially golf, which he played regularly. Dan will be remembered for his integrity, love for family, work ethic, love for his dogs, Donald Duck impersonations, wise advice, funny sayings, and much more.
Dan is survived by his wife Claire, son Paul, daughter-in-law Jessica, stepdaughter Tanya, grandchildren Samantha, McKenna, Malenta, Ally, Luke and Sophia, great grandson Kawika, sister Jean, and many more extended family and friends.
An interment will be held to honor Dan at Riverside National Cemetery on September 18, 2023, at 12:45 p.m. A celebration of life will immediately follow. Contact the family directly for the address.
