Obituary published on Legacy.com by Preston and Simons Mortuary - Riverside from Jul. 28 to Jul. 29, 2025.
Shirley Joan Face passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, at the age of 89, with her devoted husband of 69 years by her side at the home they shared with their daughter and son-in-law, ZoAnn and Ron Peterson, in Highland, California. Born on February 13, 1936, in Barre, Vermont, Shirley was the daughter of Bertha and Thomas Francis Hackett. She moved to
Riverside, California, during her high school years and graduated from Poly High School. It was through David's sister, ZoAnn, that Shirley met the love of her life, David Face. They married on July 14, 1956, and spent 69 wonderful years together, raising eight children and building a life full of love, laughter, and faith. In her final weeks, David remained by her side, as they shared treasured memories and expressed deep gratitude for the beautiful life they had built -each saying they would change nothing. Shirley and David made their home in Colton, California, where they lived for more than 60 years before moving into the backyard casita at ZoAnn and Ron's home in 2017. This allowed them to maintain their independence while surrounded by the care and love of family. Shirley was a woman of exceptional creativity and warmth. A gifted seamstress, she lovingly made clothes and blankets for her grandchildren and enjoyed both attending and teaching sewing classes. She was a talented oil painter and a remarkable cook-well known for what she could do with a single pound of hamburger. In the mid-1970s, Shirley opened Cut N Curl, a beauty salon where she worked alongside three of her daughters for many years before passing the business on to them. She also proudly served her community as a member of the Colton Planning Commission. Shirley will be remembered for her strength, her generosity, and her joyful spirit. She had a wonderful sense of humor-always laughing, always joking-and her laughter was truly contagious. Her love and light touched every life around her. She is survived by her loving husband, David Face; her children: Thomas (Annette) Face, Theresa (Scott) Roach, Michael (Debbie) Face, ZoAnn (Ron) Peterson, Michelle (Mike) Belicki, Brian Face, and Scott (Melissa) Face; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Patricia Welch and Maureen Hughey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Thomas Hackett, and her daughter, Marquita Ruffner.
