Daniel T. O'Connell
"Loving father, son, brother, grandfather & uncle"
Daniel T. O'Connell, 65, of Waterbury, entered into the gates of heaven on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the VITAS Inpatient Unit at St. Mary's Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Dan was born in Suffern, NY, on May 6, 1959, a son to the late Thomas J. O'Connell and Cynthia Anne (Baxter) O'Connell of Southbury. Growing up in Blauvelt, Dan was a graduate of St. Joseph's Regional High School. From a young age, Daniel had a knack for working with hands, which started with working at the marina when he was a boy. This evolved in giving him the ability to be able to fix anything. His love for boats stuck with him the rest of his life, and many great memories were made over the years on Lake Zoar.
Daniel made lifelong friendships throughout his life, and he was always there for any of them, especially his family. He was a die-hard New York Yankees and Rangers fan, and loved cheering them on. Daniel was a talented machinist and worked for Thin Sheet, then Erickson Metals for over thirty-five years, and most recently, Atlantic Steel until his retirement. He also helped his dear friend Holly create many beautiful memorials and other pieces with her engraving company, Ridgetop Engraving.
Besides his mother Cynthia of Southbury, Daniel leaves behind to cherish his memory his three daughters, Theresa "Terri" O'Connell of Waterbury, Amy O'Connell Pytlak and her husband Darryl Pytlak of Orange, Erin O'Connell of Columbus, Georgia, and his siblings, Mary Norris and her husband Chris of Southbury, Edward O'Connell of Southington, and Robert O'Connell and his fiancé Ellen Bannin of North Port, FL. He also leaves behind his grandson, Gavin Pytlak of Orange, and his nephews, Thomas O'Connell of Southington, and Ryan O'Connell, his wife Ginni, and their children, Violet and Patrick, all of Southington. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and dear cousins who he adored. He was predeceased by his nephew, Christopher O'Connell.
Arrangements: A funeral will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, 9:00 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours for Daniel will be held Friday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial.
