Daniel "Dan" Olinger

Daniel "Dan" Olinger, 75, of Alexandria, SD, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at his home. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 11, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Emery. Burial will be at St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7:00 PM at St. Martin's Catholic Church with a 6:30 PM prayer service.
Daniel Edward Olinger was born November 2, 1949, to Anthony and Eleanor (Donovan) Olinger in Mitchell, SD. He grew up on the family farm in Emery with his eight siblings.
Dan loved the 11 years he and Ruth shared, and loved his family dearly. Dan was always ready to lend a helping hand to others.
Dan loved farming and raising cattle all his life. He milked cows for many years. He also enjoyed working with his brothers and nephews. Dan was a strong supporter of John Deere Machinery.
Dan was a devoted Catholic and was a lifetime member of St. Martin's Catholic Church. Dan also served on the township and ASCS Boards.
Dan enjoyed traveling, particularly their trip to Alaska. He loved his cats, especially Morris.
Dan is survived by his wife, Ruth; brothers, Bill (LaVonne) Olinger and Jerry (Suzy) Olinger; sisters, Mary Olinger, Jane (Bob) Prouty, and Carol (Greg) Weber; sisters-in-law, Karla Olinger and Pam Olinger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Mike and Kenny, and sister, Betty Hershley.
