Daniel William Planer, of Tobyhanna, PA, died of natural causes on December 26, 2024 at home, surrounded by family.
Born in Easton, PA on November 14, 1959, he was the son of William Planer and the late Barbara Hill-Norman. Daniel lived with his father in Hope, NJ until the family moved to Dingmans Ferry, PA, and then to Canadensis, PA where he graduated from Pocono Mountain High School as a scholar athlete in 1978. He then received a bachelor's degree in ornamental horticulture from Delaware Valley College after graduating in 1982. Daniel is the beloved husband of Karen Planer with whom he shared 41 years of marriage.
Dan was dedicated to and took great pride in his job of 33 years as the Landscape and Operations Manager of Selig Center, Inc. He enjoyed going on hunting and fishing trips with his dad, coaching youth athletics, and traveling with his family. He was known for his charisma, thoughtfulness, and good humor and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
For more than 50 years Dan has been involved in Scouting, continuing a family tradition as the second in the line of three generations of the award of Eagle Scout. At various times, he served as the Den Leader, Scout Master, and the Committee Treasurer of Pocono Pines chapter of BSA, Troop 94. At the time of his death, he was serving as the Monroe District Eagle Board Chairman and received various local scouting awards, including: the District Award of Merit, the Pocono District Fellowship Award, the Pocono District Clint Frantz Award, the Silver Beaver Award, and in May 2024 the John J. Riley Good Scout Award.
Daniel was preceded in death by his brother Scott Planer, his nephew Jason Acciarito, his step-mother Constance Planer, and his brother-in-law Kenneth Rupert. He is lovingly remembered by his children Kylene Snyder (Brett) of Hartsdale, NY and Matthew Planer (Victoria) of Los Angeles, CA; his siblings Dean Norman (Lori) of Stewartstown, PA, Jill Planer of Palmerton, PA, Peter Norman (Megan) of Bethlehem, PA, Gwen Blake (Chris) of Milford, NJ, and Kelly Planer (David Coin) of Emmaus, PA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and his precious granddaughter Willow Patricia Rose Snyder, to whom he was known as "PopPop."
Calling hours will take place on Friday, January 3rd, 2025 from 10am - 12pm at Bolock Funeral Home (6148 Paradise Valley Rd,
Cresco, PA 18326). A service at Bolock Funeral Home will immediately follow at 12pm.
