Daniel Lowell "Dan" Rang

Daniel "Dan" Rang, 70, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026, at his home in Mitchell. A celebration of Dan's life will be Friday, January 30, 2026, from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, SD. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Brookings, SD, at a later time.

Daniel (Dan) Lowell Rang was born on January 30, 1955, in Estelline, SD. Dan also lived in the Brookings, SD area and a few towns in Iowa before settling in Mitchell, SD in 1965. He graduated from Mitchell High School and Mitchell Vo-Tech. Dan had various jobs, but Trail-Eze, Inc was his job for most of his adult life and where he retired from in the last year.

Dan was the athlete of Mike, Dan, & Kim. He played football in high school and bowled, which is a lifelong family love. He played baseball for most years. Playing for the Mitchell town teams after high school until he decided he needed to hang it up. Dan also took up golf later, and he really enjoyed it. It might be safe to say that he enjoyed everything he did. Some have said that he did a great 'Elvis', but his immediate family never got the pleasure of experiencing that treasure. Most of all, Dan loved being with his friends and having a good time. And there were many at the house throughout the years, and no one was expected to knock – they were just told to come in. He would admit, in the last years, that he didn't always know everyone who appeared to know him. He said everybody knows me, and yes, Dan, we agree everyone knew 'Rango'. He was always happy, with a smile on his face. Very little ever seemed to get to him, but if someone crossed him, they'd better look out; he'd let them know.

Dan is survived by his brother, Mike Rang of Black Hawk SD; sister, Kim Rang-Johnston of Wakonda SD; aunts, Karen Rang of Mitchell SD, JoAnn Smith of Mesa AZ; nieces, Jennifer (David) Christian and Kelli (Kellan) Teske, and Nikki (Adam) Tyhurst; nephews, Corey (Ari) Johnston; great nieces, Aubrielle and Annalisa Johnston of Wakonda SD, Kendall and Avery Tyhurst of Mayer MN, and Karter Teske of Sioux Falls SD; great nephews, Jenson and Liam Christian of Princeton MN, Asher, Cash, and Caden Johnston, and Miles Tyhurst; and many Cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell & Joan Rang; brother, Gary Rang; great nephew, Kyler Teske; Maternal & Paternal Grandparents; and many Aunts, Uncles, & Cousins.

Mitchell just won't be the same for us without him there, and we will miss him so much, as will anyone who knew him. Fly high, Dan…until we meet again.
