Daniel “Rooster” Goss, Jr., 45 of Echols County, died on Sunday, September 7, 2025, after a short illness. He was born in Valdosta on April 10, 1980, and has been a lifelong resident of this area. Growing up in Echols County, he graduated from Echols County High School in 1998 and briefly attended Valdosta State University after high school. During high school, Daniel started working for Mr. Raymond McLeod at McLeod Heating and Air. He has continued to work for McLeod Heating and Air for over 28 years, until his health prevented him from working. Being outside, riding the dirt roads, listening to music was a favorite pastime when he was younger. During one of these trips in 2004, a friend introduced him to the former Kristi Lanier on one of these roads. They were soon married and started their family. Daniel loved being a husband and daddy. Watching his kids play baseball, basketball, and barrel race was the joy of his life. He never missed a game and was always eager to talk with them about their games afterwards. He could watch Marvel movies for hours and looked forward to hunting with his dad every hunting season. Cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs and grilling were also activities he enjoyed. He probably wouldn’t admit it, but he loved the family dogs and cats too. He attended Wrights Chapel Methodist Church. He will be deeply missed by his family and those close to him.
Survivors include his wife, Kristi Lanier Goss of Echols County; his daughter Sydni Kadynn Goss of Echols County; two sons, Remington Lanier Goss and Carson Daniel Goss, all of Echols County; his parents, Dan, Sr. & Paula Goss of Echols County; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Stacie & Vance Hiers of Dixie and Lorrie & Charles Wetherington of Valdosta. Also surviving are his father-in-law and his spouse, Billy & Patsy Lanier; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robby & Dawn Lanier and Billy & Dara Lanier; and a step sister-in-law, Jennifer Purdy, all of Waycross; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Onecia & Lamar Selph.
The funeral for Daniel will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Wrights Chapel Methodist Church. Pastor Derek Herring will officiate. Burial will follow on the family lot at Wrights Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5 until 7 pm.
