SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Daniel "Dan" J. Rostollan, 65, of Sheboygan, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, from a prolonged illness due to complications after a car accident.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1957, in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, to Donald and Dolores (Utto) Rostollan.
He is survived by his father, Donald, Wakefield, Michigan; his former wife, Cheryl Galloway; his former wife, Jan Tilden, and their three children, Sarah Rostollan, Matthew Rostollan and Nicole Rostollan; his siblings, David Rostollan (Jean Rostollan) and Donovan Rostollan (Vicki Rostollan); and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother.
Dan moved with his family from Parkers Prairie to Waukesha in 1964. He graduated from Waukesha South High School in 1975, and ventured on to St. Olaf for his bachelor's degree. After graduating college in 1979, he took the opportunity to travel the world through the St. Olaf Global Studies Program. He then went on to receive his Juris Prudis Doctorate (JD) from Marquette University School of Law. Dan began his career as an attorney in Sheboygan, and eventually went on to open up his own practice in Plymouth. After he stopped practicing law, he enjoyed his part time job at the Fiserv Forum.
Dan believed in giving back to the community, and demonstrated that belief through his participation in multiple different community organizations including the Sheboygan Jaycees, the Elks Club, the Howard's Grove Lions Club and the Rotary Club. Dan joined the Jaycees shortly after moving to Sheboygan. He served on the board of directors and was the 1987 Bratwurst Day chairman. He continued to be a member of the Jaycee's until he was 40 years old. He met some lifelong friends through the Jaycee's and several bratwurst days. Daniel was also a member of the Elks Club of Sheboygan for more than 38 years. He served as a lecturing knight, loyal knight, leading knight and was an Exalted Ruler in 2017/2018.
Quality time with his children and family was spent visiting at the family cottage in Wakefield for the Fourth of July and during deer hunting season. He was known for his jam-packed cross-country road trips with the kids. He also enjoyed going to the Boundary waters with his kids and church. He supported his kids in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts by always making sure to buy all the popcorn and cookies and donated the surplus to various nursing homes.
To many of his friends, Dan was known as "Rosie," and they could be found on ice fishing trips, goose hunting trips, Brewer games and Packer games. He even got the opportunity to see the Packers play at Super Bowl XXXI in New Orleans with his friends. They also participated in the TWA Day Golf Tournament for more than 20 years. He will always remember him for his quirky sense of humor. Dan also enjoyed golfing, musicals, church and stamp collecting.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 27, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. The family wishes to give a special thank you to the Elks Club, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Rocky Knoll for their assistance, love and support.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 28, at 2 p.m., at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Highbridge, with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Ahonen officiating. Interment will follow.
