Daniel Rousseau Obituary

Daniel "Dan" D. Rousseau, age 63, of Oscoda, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024 at Trinity Health Hospital in Livonia.
Dan was born in Tawas City on Nov. 20, 1960 to the late Robert Alvin and Wilma Faye (Andrew) Rousseau. He graduated from Oscoda Area High School in 1978 and went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University. Dan loved his time at Michigan State and was proud to be a Spartan.
He married the love of his life, Nanette Cunningham on Sept. 24, 1988. Dan was very proud to be a member of the Oscoda Police Department for 27 years; serving his community faithfully and unselfishly throughout his career.
Dan had many adventurous hobbies and interests over the years that included motorcycle riding, skiing, hunting, fishing, camping, baking bread, coaching his kids in their sports, and training his dogs. Anyone who knew Dan, knew his unique ability to tell a story. He had a tendency to include "to make a long story short" no matter the length of the story.
Of all his accomplishments and interests, nothing compared to his role as a father and grandfather. He loved his children and grandson with all of his heart. Dan will truly be missed by all who had the privilege of sharing life with him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nanette Rousseau; children, Andrea Rousseau and Sean (Randi) Rousseau; grandson, Dean Rousseau; sister, Vera (Mike) Roszak; sister-in-law, Donna Rousseau; nephews, Grel and Noel Rousseau and John and Andrew Roszak; and his dog, Murphy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William Richard Rousseau and Ronald (Judy) Rousseau.
The family will welcome friends on Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 10 a.m. until the time of service beginning at 11 a.m. at Oscoda United Methodist Church. Interment will take place in Oscoda Pinecrest Cemetery. You may offer your condolences online to the family at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.

I remember Dan growing up on Hull Island. He was a few years older and would "chase" us around in the woods on his motorcycle. We had a great time. I remember he had a shed with 3 or 4 motorcycles in it and sold one to Steve Pulda. We looked up to him and it is sad to see this.

We knew Dan not just as our friendly local law enforcement officer, but as a wonderful mentor and coach for AYSO Soccer. He was a fine man, great dad, and caring member of the community. He will be missed.
