Daniel Wayne Shafer, 68, of Green Springs, OH, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Fremont ProMedica Hospital in Fremont. Dan was born on November 5, 1956 to Donald Shafer and Maxine (Schmitke) Toeppe in Fremont. Dan was a 1975 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. He married Cristina Fisher in 1976 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and she survives.
Dan worked for Clyde Green Springs Schools as a school bus driver and retired as the Transportation Director in 2022 after more than forty-five years of service. He was the Park Manager for Shercks in Green Springs for over twenty-five years. Dan served on the Village Council of Green Springs for thirty-seven years and became president of the council in 2015. He was a past member of the Green Springs Rural Volunteer Fire Department, serving for twenty-two years.
Dan was a member of the Clyde VFW, Eagles and Moose. He loved camping with family and friends. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards and was an avid mushroom hunter. Dan was a Michigan Wolverine fan. Above everything, Dan enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Tina Shafer; children, Becky (Jim Reese) Shafer, Brian (Bekah) Shafer; grandchildren, Joseph, Jamie, Jacob, Quinn, Danie, Audrey, Parker (Mackenzie), Grant (Liberty); great-grandson, Rhett; sister, Linda Evans; step-siblings, Joanne (Gregg) Gerber, Janet Brown, Terry Toeppe; numerous in-laws nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Robert Toeppe; brother, Lane Shafer.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, OH 43420.
Services will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Green Springs Cemetery.
Memorials can be made in his honor to the Green Springs Rural Volunteer Fire Department.
