Daniel Sherrer Obituary

Mount Gilead - Morrow County Deputy Daniel "Weston" Sherrer, 31, was killed in the line of duty the evening of Monday, May 26, 2025, when he responded to a domestic violence dispute in Morrow County.

Weston spent his law enforcement career at the Morrow County Sheriff's Office where he had worked since his hiring on May 16, 2021.

A graduate of the Delaware Area Career Center's Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy, he completed certification in law enforcement training including courses in Cyber Crime, First Responder Training, and Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement. Additionally, Weston completed the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Law Enforcement Active Shooter Threat Training Program.

A field training officer, Weston was a member of Morrow County FOP Lodge 159. He was a 2012 graduate of St. Charles Preparatory Academy in Bexley and studied at Bowling Green State University and Columbus State University. Weston was an organ donor, choosing to help others after his death.

Weston is survived by his fiancée, Alexandria Lyon of Morrow County; parents, Daniel and Julie Sherrer of Morrow County; sister, Selby, of Eugene, Oregon, and Alexandria's parents, Dan and Kerry Lyon, of Morrow County.

Also surviving are aunts and uncles, Connie (Ken) Smith, Columbia, S.C.; Phyllis S. Butterworth, Marion; Charles (Janice) Sherrer, Magnolia, TX; David (Melissa) Sherrer, Millersport, and E. Margaret "Peg" (Frank) O'Grady and Patricia Sherrer, all of Grove City; and many beloved cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Russ and Jan Brooks, and Maud and Dan Sherrer.

Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Northmor High School, 7819 State Route 19, Galion, Ohio 44833. Services to honor and celebrate his life will take place there at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, with former Morrow County Sheriff, Pastor Steve Brenneman officiating. Private graveside services will be conducted.

Pallbearers are Aaron Bays, Austin Kennedy, David Winkler, Chase Beekman, Eric Collins and Michael Brewer. Honorary pallbearers are John B. Butterworth and Robert H. Butterworth.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Spirit of Hope Fund, in care of Marion General Hospital Foundation, 1000 McKinley Park Drive, Marion, Ohio 43302. Deputy Sherrer's late uncle, former Marion County Sheriff John H. Butterworth and his wife, Phyllis, started the fund in 2013 to assist area cancer patients.

The family is humbled by and grateful for the outpouring of support and love they have received during this time from the Morrow County community, Morrow County Sheriff's Office and numerous other law enforcement and first responder agencies from throughout the state.

Was a classmate and graduated with Wes at St Charles for 4 years. Ate lunch with him and went to football games with him. I am out of state and had no idea he was a cop. Very sad news about someone I haven't seen in a very long time. My condolences to the Sherrer family, his fiancee, and everyone close to him both personally and professionally. I hope justice is served. RIP from the class of 2012.
