May 23, 1950 – January 2, 2022
Daniel Richard Skwarcan, Jr., age 71, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Niles, MI, on Sunday, January 2, 2022.
Dan will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 51 years and love of his life, Amanda. Together they raised their son and pride of his life, Dean (Angie). He also warmly welcomed and deeply loved their three granddaughters, Anna, Beatrice and Clementine, who became the joys of his life.
Born May 23, 1950, to Gladys and Daniel Skwarcan, Sr., Danny was the first of five children and lived in the South Bend area for most of his life. Dan is also survived by his mother, Gladys, and four siblings: Tom (Arnie) of Mishawaka, IN; Margie Zemlyak (Mike) of Goshen, IN; Ron (Debbie) of South Bend, IN; Larry (Linda) of Niles, MI. He was preceded in death by his father.
Dan worked tirelessly to provide a wonderful life for his family. He finished his undergraduate degree and then obtained an MBA, both at Indiana University South Bend, while working full time at The Associates. In 1983, he moved his family to Baltimore, MD, and worked for USF&G Insurance. They moved back to South Bend and The Associates in 1988, and later to Dallas, TX with the same company. From there, he accepted a major project manager role for Sun Microsystems. In 2007, Dan took over Fun Tan, Inc. This opportunity provided him a challenge and so much more. He truly enjoyed getting to know and learning from everyone on his team.
Dan was a devout Catholic. He attended mass every week, followed by brunch with Mandy at Sorin's. He regularly volunteered as an usher and enjoyed helping others feel part of the church community.
Dan will be remembered for his love of cleaning, yardwork and attention to detail. He showed everyone that ever met him what it means to work hard – even on the weekends. But he knew how to have fun, too. Trips with Mandy, dinners with Dean, and swimming with his granddaughters will be what those who love him most will always remember.
Arrangements are entrusted to Kaniewski Funeral Homes of South Bend. A visitation will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, January 6, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00pm. Both will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 State Road 933, South Bend, IN 46637.
Memorial contributions in Dan's honor can be made to The Christ Child Society of South Bend, 2366 Miracle Lane, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
