Daniel Smith Obituary

Daniel (Danny) Smith, aged 60 passed peacefully in his sleep on Saturday October 11, 2025, at his home in Brentwood, NY.

Danny was born on May 23, 1965, and lovingly adopted by our parents Edward and Patricia Smith in March of 1967.

Although Danny had developmental delays, he grew up in a loving home that accepted his challenges without letting them define him. The expectations placed upon Danny in the family were the same as all his siblings. Although, there had been a time or two where he used his limitations as an excuse to get out of "chores."

Danny attended Hicksville School district where he participated on the school track team with the encouragement of his teachers. He was extremely knowledgeable about the weather and enjoyed watching that part of the news so he could then watch for the changes in the clouds, wind and air pressure in the days to come. Danny loved cartoons, especially Tom & Jerry and Woody Woodpecker. He could recite most episodes verbatim. He enjoyed music, dancing, and Michael Jackson the song Thriller.

Danny was a very personable person. As a child he loved to visit with neighbors to sit and just talk as well as play games with the neighborhood kids. He so easily made connections with everyone he met, not knowing, left lasting impressions.

Danny had many challenges in his short life. He faced each and every one of them head on with determination and acceptance. His challenges did not inhibit his love for life, family, fun, connection with others and most importantly his love for coffee. Danny will forever be remembered for his joyful, flirtatious, and humorous personality. He could light up a room with jokes and fun interactions that brought smiles to everyone around him. He could also discuss serious topics and would leave you with a thought provoking one liner.

Danny is predeceased by his parents Edward and Patricia Smith

Danny is survived by siblings: Edward Smith Jr. (Delores), Donna Weston (Eugene), Maureen Smith, Brian Smith (Deana)

His nieces and nephews: Matthew Weston, Edward Smith III, Steven Hults, Taylor Unger, Kimberlee Weston, Amanda Brabant, Danielle Brabant, Cassandra Brabant, Mackenzie Smith and Emily Smith. He also had numerous wonderful great-nieces and great-nephews and extended family members.

Danny also leaves behind a special family he developed with the staff and roommates at his home in Brentwood, NY.
