HAVERHILL – Daniel Richard Trefry, Sr., 80, husband of Karen Delia (Ward) Trefry of Haverhill, passed away peacefully, after a twenty year battle with Parkinson's, at home surrounded by family on June 10, 2025.
Daniel was born in Winchester, MA on February 28, 1945. He was the son of Samuel and Virginia (Marchetti) Trefry. Daniel attended high school in California and spent his teen years surfing in California and Hawaii; after which he joined the Army, serving during the Panamanian Crisis. Dan was employed at Kraft General Foods, Atlantic Gelatin Plant in Woburn, working in the Vat Room as a Chemical Overseer until retirement.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Karen D. Trefry of Haverhill, his son Daniel R. Trefry, Jr. and wife Christina of Methuen, and his daughter Laura Lee Hawksley and her husband Keith of Haverhill. He also leaves behind his grandson Nathaniel M. Trefry and several nieces and nephews.
Dan participated as a scout leader in Woburn and North Andover, and he was the softball coach of and player for the Woburn At Gel's Softball Team. He loved the beaches, N. S. E. and W. and New England sports teams during retirement. He was an enthusiastic member of Golds, World, and then Choice Fitness Gyms for thirty years. Dan's heart strings were his son, daughter and grandson.

In our teens we called him Danny. We hung around in the veterans project in Beverly. I want to say he lived in the project because his dad was in the service at that time. Lost track of Danny & Karen for many years. We finally reunited & had dinner together a couple yrs ago. Will never forget that night & will never forget Danny. He was a stand up guy & always a gentleman. He will dearly be missed.
