Dan always seemed to have a smile in his eyes and his voice, as if he had a joke he was going to share, and always seemed happy to see you and be with you.
So sorry he won't be at the 50th to bring his good cheer.
One favorite memory of Dan is Memorial Day weekend 1969 when I caught a midnight ride with Dan and Jim and their dad down to Indianapolis for the Indy 500. As soon as Dan heard I was headed to Indy he offered the ride. They dropped me off to meet up with a new friend of mine from Indy, a fine fellow, Lou Schlegel, who remained a lifelong friend until cancer took him 10+ yrs ago.
Or maybe the best Dan memory was the midnight impromptu paint job done to somebody's old beater... I say maybe cuz I can't remember now for sure if Dan was there. If not he would have loved the nuttiness of it.
