Daniel E. Wiese, 89, of
Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on November 21, 2025. Dan was born on June 16, 1936, in Cedar Rapids to Erwin "Hans" and Bernice (Cristy) Wiese.
Dan grew up in eastern Iowa and graduated from Bennett High School in 1954. He went on to attend Iowa State University where he studied statistics and graduated in 1958. During his time at Iowa State, he was a proud member of the Army ROTC program, later serving in the United States Army until completing his military service in 1966 with the rank of Captain. Dan was also a talented athlete, serving as the backup catcher on the first Iowa State University baseball team to advance to the NCAA Tournament and make its inaugural College World Series appearance in 1957.
Dan married the love of his life, JoBeth Wiese, in 1982. Together they built a blended family filled with deep love, humor, and unwavering support. Dan is survived by his wife, JoBeth; his children Anne Wiese of Placitas, NM; John Wiese (Deb Phillips) of Clermont, FL; Amy Wiese of Texas; Jamie Kuehl (Linda Hildebrand) of Marion, IA; Jill Wendel (Pete) of St. Joseph, MI; and Eric Bauer (Erin) of Al Khubar, Saudi Arabia.
He was a proud grandpa Dan to Mason Wiese, Melissa Wendel, Parker Wendel, Brooke Baldwin, Emma Anderson, Jacob Bauer, Nyah Engstrom, Eliana Bauer, Maverick Bauer, and Decker Bauer; and a loving great-grandpa to Mila McCauley, Beckham Baldwin, Emmett Baldwin, Wylder Smart, and a baby boy Bauer on the way. He is also survived by his in-laws Judy (David) Cravens and Kent (Shari) Kuehl, as well as many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
Dan built a long and respected career in market research, beginning at Connecticut General Life Insurance, followed by Meredith Publishing in Des Moines, Chilton Research Services in Pennsylvania, and CMF&Z in Cedar Rapids. He founded Dan Wiese Market & Research in Cedar Rapids in 1986, a role that reflected his expertise and entrepreneurial spirit.
Although a graduate of Iowa State University, Dan joyfully embraced his wife's Hawkeye heritage and became an enthusiastic supporter of all University of Iowa sports-especially Iowa Women's Basketball. He proudly held season tickets for over forty years. Dan loved reading books, working crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, and could recite lines from A Christmas Story, one of his all-time favorite movies ("You'll shoot your eye out!").
Above all, Dan loved his family. He cherished time spent together, celebrated every achievement, and supported his loved ones with a generous and steadfast heart.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Bernice Wiese; his brother, Jim Wiese; nephew Ben Wiese; parents-in-law Kenneth and JoAnne Kuehl; and sisters-in-law Leslie Kuehl and Jane Kuehl.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
