Danny Allred Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barnes-Friederich & Pope Funeral Home - Midwest City on Nov. 8, 2021.
Danny Winfield Allred was born in Enid, OK on March 19, 1946 to Mary Ellen (Boyle) and Winfield Louis Allred. He passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021. His physical life may have been 75 years, but anyone who knew him would tell you he easily packed 150 years into that life.
Danny grew up in Enid surrounded by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Many of those cousins were his best friends and most all were his "favorite cousin." He adored his parents, but was admittedly a mama's boy. His older brother David and he shared a bed as little boys and a love of cars and travel as adults.
Dan married Sandra Lynn Lawson and had 2 sons, Charles Winfield (Chuck) and Matthew Thomas (Matt) and spouse Stephanie Allred, who Dan saw as a Daughter. While they went separate ways after many years, they remained equally invested in their son's and grandchildren's lives.
On Groundhog Day, 2003, Dan married Donna Westrook Bradford in a sunset wedding in Maui, Hawaii. With this union he inherited 2 stepdaughters, Valerie Dawn Bradford and Jamie Lee Bradford. As one of them recently said, from that point on they felt safe knowing he always had their backs.
In addition to Chuck, Matt, Valerie and Jamie, Dan was survived by his grandchildren Ashley Karen Allred, Zachory Winfield Allred, Hayden Thomas Allred, Haylee Corrine Allred, and great-grandgirl Josephine Lee Parker. He was also survived by his brother David Allred (wife Nancy) and friend and "other brother" Mike Gilliam.
Dan said you could see a lot of his life by watching the movies "Arthur" and "The Firm." Those who worked with and for him or were one of his many friends could attest to that. If you ever knew him, you had a "Dan Story" to tell.
Things he wanted those he was leaving behind to know: 1) Save on the little things and you'll have money for the big ones, 2) If it's free take three, 3) Do fireworks for all special occasions, and 4) chase all emergency vehicles.
Most people did NOT know that Dan was a "great poet." This is his guidance on how to go on without him:
TO THOSE I LOVE AND THOSE WHO LOVE ME
When I'm gone, release me, let me go
I have so many things to say and do
You musn't tie yourself to me with tears
Be thankful for the years
I gave you my love. You can only guess
How much you gave me happiness
I thank you for your love you each have shown
But now it's time for me to travel alone
So grieve awhile for me, if grieve you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust
If only for a time that we must part
So bless the memories within your heart.
I won't be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come
Though you cannot see or touch me, I'll be near
And if you listen with your heart you'll hear
All my love around you, soft and dear.
And then when you must come this way along
I'll greet you with a smile and say
WELCOME HOME
While no one loved being the center of attention and the life of the party more than Dan did, he did not want any kind of funeral or memorial service. Rather, he and his family ask that you take your memories and share them with one another on your own and hold them in your heart.
