Plymouth- It is with ladened hearts that we announce a limb has fallen from our family tree. Danny Lee Holt, born December 13th, 1946, took his last breath on January 1st, 2025. He was the eldest of 6 born to Roland Holt and Katherine (Doore) Holt in Dover-Foxcroft, ME.
He received his education from Plymouth Grammar School, moving on to Newport High School, graduating in 1965. He also received training and several certifications in his field of choice.
In January of 1966 he married Anita Jane Walker and together they raised 4 daughters, 2 of which are twins, on Route 7 in Plymouth, ME. Their marriage came to an end in 1989.
He was a heavy equipment mechanic by trade until abruptly halted in 1984 due to a back injury. He was also an engineer, inventor, carpenter, artist, mathematician, musician, historian and entertainer by choice. All of which he was sharply skilled.
Being a lifelong resident of Plymouth, a town he loved and could tell you anything about, is where he constructed 2 houses with his own hands then fashioned them into what he called home. The first being on his family homestead.
Danny loved to sing, play his guitar and especially dance, which he was a natural at! He regularly and faithfully attended dance events in Corinna, Palmyra and the American Legion Hall in Augusta. He was often found in the center of the dance floor being cheered on by spectators and never without his cowboy hat!
At one event in Augusta, he met the love of his life, Gloria, an amazing woman with whom he became smitten! They spent many years together not only going to dances, but church suppers, State fairs and Senior trips to places such as Niagara Falls, Washington D.C., Florida and New Brunswick. They spent every possible moment together until declining health halted Gloria's ability to participate. Danny made it his mission to visit her regularly up until 10 days of his passing
Danny was passionate about vintage western television shows (His favorite was "The Rifleman"), family history (he could tell you who's who going back several generations) and anything with a motor! He loved to build things and work with his hands, being very precise with both. He enjoyed restoring John Deere tractors, bowling, drawing, wood burning, camping, fishing, picking pussy willows in the Spring and Johnny Cash.
He was pre-deceased by his infant brother, father and mother. Also, his Aunt Jackie and Uncle Charles, both of whom he was so fond of. Danny leaves behind 4 sisters - - -Sandy Heal (Lewis) of Sebec, Pam Curtis (Arnold) of Ripley, Lynn Bearce of Guilford and Barbie Hatch (Jasper) of Dexter. Also, his 4 daughters - - - Mindy Martin (partner Dean) of Bucksport, Patty Kennedy (Larry) of Detroit, Stacy York (Paul) of Virginia and Tracy Kempton (Richard Jr.) of Plymouth. 5 granddaughters - - - Elzadie (Steven), Elva Jane (John), Heather (Peter), Jenny (Kevin), Mandy (Josh) and 1 grandson, Blaine. He also had 13 great grandchildren, the newest 2, Walker and Nash, he was particularly proud of!
Danny was a man that walked to the beat of his own drum and didn't have a problem letting the world know it! The last 3 months, to the day, were extremely challenging yet he rarely quivered. His children saw to it that he was constantly surrounded with an overflowing amount of love, happiness and support that was beyond measure and compared to none.
It is without a doubt that Danny is now in that glorious place called Heaven as it was years ago he announced his faith and repentance. We look forward to the day we get to be with him again beside the throne of God. Until then, we will miss him.
There will be a memorial visiting hour on January 18th from 11am to 12pm, followed by a service at 12pm at Crosby and Neal Funeral Home 117 Maine Street, Newport. A burial with a celebration of life will be held later this spring.
