Danny Ray Martin, 62, of Cherry Ridge Township, Honesdale died Saturday evening, March 9, 2024 at home. His beloved wife, the former Kristiann Carney survives him.
Born August 14, 1961 in Elizabethton, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Elvina W. Wright.
As a young man, Danny joined the United States Army and served from 1980-1983. This service helped to shape him both personally and professionally; he was forever proud to be a soldier. Danny soon enlisted in the United States Coast Guard where he remained on active duty for four years from 1985-1989.
Upon earning his second honorable discharge from military service, Danny embarked on the career that he loved the most; he graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey, PA. Danny was a devoted Trooper of the Pennsylvania State Police for nearly 25 years. His assignments called for him to be stationed at Swiftwater, Dunmore, and finally Honesdale where he earned the rank of Corporal. After retiring in 2011, Danny was a School Resource Officer at Western Wayne High School where he enjoyed helping the students, faculty, and administration.
Danny was a unique and lovable man who cared deeply about others. He enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was also an avid gardener and fisherman. Danny loved reading; he especially enjoyed history, and his favorite author was Edgar Allen Poe. Danny will be remembered most as a loving husband, father, and friend.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived his children: Dana Martin of Bethany, Echo Sims of Germany, Patrick Stephens and his fiance Caitlin Doney of Honesdale, Hunter Hiller and his companion Robyn Blick of Arizona, and Cannon Hiller of Honesdale; his granddaughter, Evelyn; two brothers, Shane Rasnick of Tennessee, and David Rasnick of Arkansas; and his in-laws, Susan and Nolan Leba of Honesdale.
Danny's faithful dog, Franklin, was his constant companion and loving friend. Together, they shared much joy and brought caring comfort to each other.
Danny was also preceded in death by his loving sister, Jean Turbyfill.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 4:30 P.M. in The Chapel at Ladore Lodge, 398 South Street, Waymart, PA 18472 with his friend and colleague, Robert H. "Marty" Robbins, PSP Retired officiating. Services will include a State Police Honor Guard and Military Honors.
Friends may visit on Monday from 2-4 PM in the Chapel at Ladore Lodge, 398 South Street, Waymart, PA 18472.
Everyone is welcome to attend both the visitation and memorial service.
