Danny Ray was born August 22, 1954, in Anson County, NC and was the son of the late Rebecca Oliver Pegram. He was a 1972 graduate of Bowman High School.
Danny Ray’s mother knew early on that she wanted him to learn a trade and as a young man, he learned masonry. For 30 years, he was the owner of D.R. Oliver Masonry Contractors in Wadesboro. He and his crew were well-known for their fine masonry abilities and craft throughout the area and state. Several buildings in his hometown of Wadesboro have the hands of D.R. Masonry on them.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Justin Oliver and wife, Stacy of Pinehurst; his granddaughter, Amber Anastas of Pinehurst; his long-time friend and companion, Beth Cummings of Wadesboro; his sisters, Bobbi Almond of Charlotte, and J. Elaine VonCannon of Dunnville, VA and many friends who were like family to him.
Danny Ray loved being around people. He would make trips to Pinehurst to hang out with the patrons at his son’s barber shop and not to forget all the times he shared with the guys at Whitt’s Convenience Store in Wadesboro shooting the breeze.
While early on he enjoyed fishing and hunting, it was his love for golf that allowed him to share great memory making trips and games with his friends. He could often be found at Twin Valley in Wadesboro enjoying a friendly round of golf or just socializing with friends.
He was a good cook and for many years, cooked Boston Butts to share with his family and friends during the holidays.
Danny Ray Oliver was a man’s man and was loved and admired by his family and friends. He always saw the good in his fellow man.
