Funeral services for Danny Richard Saffel, 69 of Campti will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Creston Baptist Church in Black Lake with Bro. Truman Leach officiating. Burial will follow in L.C. Weaver Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the church.
Danny was born to his parents Bobby Hershel Saffel and Margaret Odell Calvet in Tyler, TX. He passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024 at his home in Campti. Danny married the love of his life Diane at 16 years old and they were together for 51 years. Together they built a life from the ground up, raising their daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many others who came through their doors. All of his kids called him Poppy, even the ones that weren't his blood. He was a family man who always was ready to lend a helping hand and give advice when needed. He retired from the oilfield after 50 plus years, where he held the position of offshore installation manager (OIM), retired as a member of FD-9 in Campti, and was a member of the coastguard. His legacy will live on through his children and loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his wife Diane Saffel, father Bobby Saffel, mother Margaret Patterson, step-dad Robert Patterson, and brother Bobby Saffel. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Misty Morgan (Alex),step-brother Ned Patterson, grandchildren Katie Litton (Ernie), Richard Gourdon (Maxie), and Justin Blackmon. Great Grandchildren Cameron Litton, Corbin Litton, G.G. Litton, Gabriel Gourdon (Boudreaux), and Boone Litton.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Justin Blackmon, Russell Williams, Layton Friday, Jake Baldridge, Larry Litton, Trey Stanley, and Cody Nealy. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Lyles, Brent Dufrene, Chad Abbott, Boogie Baker, Mike Blackmon, Freddie Wehrmann, and Buddy Davis.
The family would like to send a special thank to Dr. Aktar and staff at NRMC cancer center and Hospice of Natchitoches.
