Danny Smith Obituary

Danny Stanley Smith, 72, of Augusta, WV passed away peacefully at his home with his loved ones by his side on August 19, 2025.

Danny was born in Winchester, VA on October 20, 1952, the son of the late Gene and Avery (Mowery) Smith.

Danny was a 1970 graduate of Hampshire High School. Danny worked various jobs over the years, but his favorite was working alongside his family on their farm, Elkhorn Farm. He worked as a mechanic and previously worked at Malick's Garage, Southern States, Unimin Corporation, Baker Mulch Plant, Omps Garage and Shenandoah Valley Construction.

There wasn't a piece of equipment he couldn't fix and being in the shop with his buddies stopping by was something he truly enjoyed. Danny filled many places over the years, the head of the Sunday dinner table, the seat of a tractor, behind the wheel of his Mustang, a passenger on the trains at Cass Scenic Railroad, the seat of his motorcycle riding through the mountains of WV, his place on the couch watching NASCAR, Andy Griffith or a good western, the chair closest to the wood stove in the shop, and as Danny's health was progressively getting worse he made a place next to whoever was doing something because he didn't let his hardships stop him. Most importantly he filled a place in everyone's heart that he encountered because Danny possessed many qualities that we all need to hold strong to: kindness, honesty, perseverance, patience, determination, faith and the love of family.

Danny and his wife of 51 years, Glory (Lee) Smith, enjoyed traveling on their motorcycle and taking train rides together. You could also find them on a Sunday afternoon getting ice cream at one of the local ice cream shops.

Danny is survived by his wife Glory, son Shawn (Whitney), brothers Denzil (Mary) of Augusta, WV and Delmas (Kay) of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are his nephews Jason (Sheila Bean) and Joey of Augusta, WV and his niece Emily (Kevin) Stevenson and their daughter, Kaelyn. Danny also leaves his little blessings, his grandkids, whom he loved and enjoyed very much, Joseigh, Daylon and Kason Smith.

Danny is also survived by so many other family and friends by which he will be greatly missed. We must never forget the smiles, happiness and memories Danny left all of us who were blessed enough to know him. Let his love as a husband, father, brother, uncle and grandpa be an example to us all. Danny's life wasn't always easy, but he lived a life we must all easily remember; James 1:12: Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

Danny's legacy will live on through his family who will be celebrating his life by receiving friends on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory, Capon Bridge, WV from 5-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.at the Delray Christian Church, with Minister Dave Atzenweiler and Pastor Larry Aikens officiating. Interment will follow in Green Lane Cemetery in Delray, WV.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
