Danny Ray Unger went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. He was at home under the loving care of his family.

Danny was born on October 2, 1952, to parents Mary Nell Gott and Vernon William Unger. He grew up in Belton and, later, Waco, Texas where he was selected for All State Baseball during high school. Danny graduated from Baylor University in 1976 with a degree in accounting. It was here that he met the love of his life, Tracie Henderson. Danny went on to open his own CPA firm in Palestine, where he was a highly respected CPA for a number of years. He eventually decided to make a career change and sold his CPA firm and established a select-cut logging business. It was hard work, but he loved the challenge and being out in nature.

In 1977, Danny married Tracie, and they are the parents of nine wonderful children. Their children (and grandchildren) are the grand and blessed achievements of their lives.

Danny had a brilliant mind and the gift of retaining most of everything he read. He was a dedicated student of the Bible, as well as US Law. He learned and taught his family many things including bee keeping, animal husbandry, farming, herbal medicine, hunting and food preservation, and multiple other skills. He and Tracie were pioneers in the Texas Homeschooling movement and successfully educated their nine children at home. Each child went on to pursue degrees from various well-known colleges, excelling in their chosen fields. Their eleven grandchildren are also being homeschooled.

Left to cherish Danny's memory are Tracie and their children: Tammie Unger (Palestine), Haylie Agapetos (Rusk), Daniel and wife Mary Anne (Idaho), Joshua and wife Micah (Flint), Bethanie and Kenzie (Palestine), Josiah and wife Kayelee (Denton), Hillarie and Edgar Garcia (Palestine), Gideon (Palestine), and Samuel and wife G (Wyoming). Also, precious grandchildren Valentine, Maximus, Orion, Aurora, Olive, Knox, Ezra, Landon, and Carter Unger and Abigail and Emilia Garcia.

Services were held for Danny on Wednesday, September 10, at Chambers-Day Cemetery in Palestine. He loved the bagpipes, so "Amazing Grace" was played on bagpipes at his service. Danny is finally peacefully at home with his Heavenly Father.
