Dara was born on February 14, 1951, in Natchez, MS, to Monroe Alvin and Gloria Jones Wallace. She graduated from Natchez High School before advancing her education at Co-Lin Jr. College. After completing her education, Dara married the love of her life, Arnold Walker. Three children were born to this union, and the happy couple raised their family in New Hebron.
For nearly two decades, she dedicated herself to her role as a bookkeeper at Berry Chevrolet, where her meticulous nature and unwavering commitment contributed significantly to the establishment's success. Dara was multifaceted and wore many hats throughout her career, demonstrating aptitude and versatility that inspired those around her.
Dara found immense joy in her family's company, particularly during holidays when her home became a gathering place filled with laughter, love, and warmth. The laughter of her children and grandchildren resonated within her home—a sanctuary of joy where she made each grandchild feel special. Known for her talent in the kitchen, Dara will be fondly remembered for her delicious casseroles and signature strawberry cake. In addition, her interests and hobbies reflected her vibrant personality. A passionate collector, Dara had an eye for figurines, with a particular fondness for chickens and Santa Clauses. She also enjoyed collecting various crosses and exhibited a flair for decorating that transformed her home into a haven of beauty.
Dara was a faithful member of the New Hebron Methodist Church. In service to her Lord, she actively participated in the Methodist Women's organization, previously serving as secretary. Her nurturing heart inspired her to volunteer in the Soup Kitchen ministry, where she selflessly devoted her time and energy to serving the needy in her community.
Mrs. Walker is preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Gloria Wallace, and a brother, Monroe A. Wallace, Jr.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her beloved husband of 54 years, Arnold Walker of New Hebron; daughter Kara Walker Polk (Brad) of Magee; sons Brandt Walker (Jennifer) of Jackson and Marney Walker (DeShea) of Magee; and her sister, Kathy Wallace of Natchez. The legacy of their Meme will also live on through the grandchildren she adored: Mary Hampton Walker, Walker Polk, Kade Walker, Kolt Walker, Vallie Polk, Lucy Walker, and Maeley Polk.
