Darius Dean Turner, 73, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, in Scottsburg, IN. Dean was born July 30, 1952, in Phoenix, AZ, and grew up in Richmond, KY, the son of David Brown and Norma Jean (Agee) Turner. He received his high school diploma from Madison Central High School in 1970. Dean married the love of his life, his wife, Deborah, on May 23, 1975, in Rochester, NY. Dean was a farm laborer, but spent most of his life as a stay-at-home father for his children, and as a foster father for a number of young men who were turned out or estranged from their families. He and his wife moved to Scottsburg, IN, in 2015 to be closer to his daughter and her family. Dean was an avid baseball card collector and supporter of the
Cincinnati Reds; he was also an amateur artist, and enjoyed flea marketing and caring for his dogs and grandchildren. He was known by his friends and family for his generosity and capaciousness of spirit, and by everyone else for never knowing a stranger. He is survived by his wife, with whom he recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. He is also survived by his son,
Matthew (Derek McIver), of New York City, by his daughter, Amy, and her children, Christopher, Jeremiah, and Lucille of Scottsburg, IN, and by his brothers, Barry and Stacy of Richmond, KY.
A celebration of life will be held from 2:00PM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Elevation Church, 660 S Boatman Rd., Scottsburg, IN.
