Darla Lynn Fleming, 59, of Neptune, NJ, transitioned this life and into the next, on Wednesday, April 17th at Jersey Shore University Medical Center after a long battle with illness. She was blessed by the love of all those who came to visit her.
Darla Lynn, also affectionately known as "Booie" to family and friends, was born on May 15, 1964 to Frances Mae Fleming and Willie Haugbrook. Darla grew up in Brielle and resided there most of her life before moving to Neptune.
Darla went to Brielle Elementary School and graduated from Manasquan High School in 1982. She was a member of the track team and enjoyed participating in track events. Darla loved to run and in her later years, her running turned into walking which was her main mode of transportation. She held several different jobs: a clerk at Freehold Courthouse, cashier positions for Walmart and others, and as a companion to others for Cavalier Senior Care.
Darla loved keeping in touch with people, and stayed in touch with Brielle residents over the years. She was always up-to-date on the latest happenings and loved to share that information. If someone from Brielle passed away or moved, Darla seemed to know about it and would call family to make sure they all knew! If you wanted to know how someone was doing who had lived in Brielle, most likely she knew about it! She was like the local newspaper for the family. Darla had a heart for caring for people and became the caretaker for several people and family members in their last season of life. She never complained. She had a heart for giving, and always remembered everyone's birthday. It wouldn't surprise you if you received an envelope with a $5 bill folded inside and Happy Birthday written on the inside from her. She never forgot. Darla also loved playing bingo and buying her scratch offs.
Darla was preceded in death by both her mother and father. She leaves loving memories behind to remember her: daughter Jasmine Ferguson; brother Anthony Fleming; niece Ashley Fleming; and nephew Anthony Fleming Jr; Aunts Noel Clark, Elaine Jones, Wanda Kelly, Charlene Ferguson and Tina Miller and a host of cousins, relatives, adopted family members and friends.
