Darla S. Widger
Darla S. Widger, age 82, of Erie, passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024. She was born in Erie on February 7, 1942, daughter of the late Frank and Aurelia Sobolewski.
Darla was a graduate of Harbor Creek High School and Mercyhurst University. She was a member and violinist with the Erie Philharmonic, Erie Chamber Orchestra and the Greenville Symphony prior to her retirement. Darla often volunteered at the Erie Playhouse with the orchestra and taught at World of Music. She also sang with the Erie Presque Isle Chorale and played with the Erdley Trio. Darla's life was being a musician and being a homemaker to her family. She loved flowers and with her husband, enjoyed running the Widger's Greenhouse. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and previously a long-time member of Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church.
Darla is survived by six children, Kathy Wager (Bill), David Widger (Brenda), Mike Widger (Leah), Linda Johnson (Gerry), Don Widger (Danielle) and Laurie Bell; one sister, Barbara Jean (Norman Anderson); eleven grandchildren, Heather Gall, Billy Wager, Daniel Widger, Abby Fleck, Jacob Widger, Sam Widger, Alex Johnson, Justin Johnson, Karlie Johnson, Samantha Widger and Owen Widger; and five great-grandchildren, Aurelia, Ellie, Charles and Rosalie Gall and Noelle Widger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry David Widger; her sister, Mabel Holodnak and her husband, Don; and her aunt and uncle, Winnie and Ray Swanson.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral and Cremation Services Harborcreek, 5151 Buffalo Road (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek Twp.) on Friday, January 3rd, from 3 to 7 pm and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Saturday, January 4th, at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at St. Gregory Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Darla's family through the funeral home.
