Darlakaye Maijala Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 15, 2024.
Darlakaye Evelyn Maijala (Timm)
Our beautiful, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away on Sept. 13th in Minneapolis, MN. Darlakaye was born on Dec. 26, 1945 in Austin, MN. She grew up in LeRoy, MN playing in the big barn filled with that particular smell of fresh hay, dancing in filtered sunlight. She moved to Minneapolis in Junior High and graduated from Central High School. She married Reino, moved to the East Coast for a few years and returned to Mpls. Darla was a constant contributor to her world - working at Bell Telephone, The Learning Tree, Fairview Southdale Hospital, Kennedy High School and a long career with the Bloomington Police Department. She loved learning and challenged herself in new endeavors. She had many job titles and descriptions - and her favorite was "Mom" and "Mummo".
Darla leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, encouragement and spunk. Her home was the definition of love and she found such peace in crossing the threshold of her driveway. So kindhearted, Darla spent a lifetime of bettering the lives of those around her - at church, in the neighborhood, and family. She loved her family and friends fiercely and she touched our hearts.
Darla was preceded in death by her parents Mina and Alfred Timm, sisters June and Gloria and brother Alan. She is survived by her husband of more than 60 years Reino, her daughters Julie (Paul) Lundquist and Kari (Mike) Ornes; Grandchildren Megan (Hudson), Mitchell, Kaija (Ben), McKenziekaye and Jake; Sisters Yvonne (Don) and Freda (Arden), many nieces and nephews, Belle (her beloved schnauzer) and 4 great grand pups.
Memorial service on Friday, September 20 at 11:00am, with visitation beginning at 10:00am at Christ the King Lutheran Church at 8600 Freemont Ave. S., Bloomington. Light lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Bloomington Center for the Arts preferred.
