Edward Joseph Ulmaniec, Jr.,
age 86, of Northeast Minneapolis, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025. Born on December 12, 1938, in Minneapolis, Ed was the son of Mae (Gronlund) and Edward Ulmaniec, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jean Mastro; his younger brother, Jimmy Ulmaniec; and his second wife, Carol Jean (Cruise) Ulmaniec. Ed is survived by his three children: Mary Ulmaniec Bianco and her husband, Joseph Bianco; Edward Ulmaniec III and his wife, Tara Ulmaniec; and Christine Swenning and her husband, Terry Swenning. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Amy Bianco Regan and her husband, Cam Bianco Regan; Erin Bianco; and Joey Bianco. A proud lifelong resident of Northeast Minneapolis, Ed graduated from Edison High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Following his service, he attended the University of Minnesota, where he became a devoted Gopher fan-a loyalty he carried throughout his life, especially Gopher hockey. Ed had a deep appreciation for all sports, not only for the games themselves but for the qualities they represent: resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship. He also enjoyed biking the Minneapolis bike paths well into his 70s, taking in the changing seasons and the familiar neighborhoods he loved. Ed will be remembered for his love and caring concern for his family, and especially for the deep pride and affection he held for his children and grandchildren. Private interment Fort Snelling. www.Washburn-McReavy.com
