Darlene Jost Babin, lately of Newberg, Oregon, passed away on her own terms on June 18, 2025. A memorial service will take place at Attrell's Funeral Chapel in Newberg on July 2 at 1pm.
Darlene was born and raised on the family farm in Sherwood with her three brothers. She cultivated a deep love of earthly nature and celestial sites. She loved to ride her horse, Prince, on the back 40.
Music was a lifelong passion for Darlene. She was sat by her Papa at a church organ at the age of two, and never stopped playing. She won numerous awards for her skill on the piano, but diverted a career in music to raise a family. Even then, she made sure her daughters grew up in music.
As a military wife, she worked her way through a Bachelor's degree across three different duty stations. With her eldest daughter in tow, she attended classes at Mira Costa Community College in California, Arizona State University, and finally University of Hawaii where she earned a degree in Geography.
She welcomed her youngest daughter 11 years after her first in an ambitious bid to raise a pre-teen and a newborn. She succeeded fabulously.
Darlene enjoyed an intellectual curiosity without limit. She continued her studies into her 50's, earning a Master's degree from George Fox University, and becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She went on to counsel & help numerous families through their difficult times.
She loved to read, play music with others, build useful things (including her own telescope), garden, and especially to cuddle with her beloved cats and dog.
Darlene is missed by her daughters, Kassie and Josie, brothers Jerry and Jon, sister-in-law Sharon, niblings Jesse, Matt, Chanel, beloved friend Sam, and Buffy Dog.
